New Favorite BKK Restaurant
The Long Table on Sukhumvit soi 16 just had its grand opening last month. The place is fantastic. Its new, so its not busy yet. And the prices are not yet crazy.
The food is Thai Fusion, the decor is among the best in town, and the view is beautiful. It is on the 25th floor of Column Residence, about 100 meters inside soi 16 facing Asok Road (soi 16 is accessable from Asok.)
My last dinner for two was under 5,000 Baht with a bottle of Villa Antinori (my last dinner for two at The Dome was about 20,000 Baht, and it wasn't as good.)

I have to laugh at myself. I read Brad's price at Long Table as 500 baht which I thought was quite reasonable. I agree - I wouldn't spend 20,000 baht for a dinner at the Dome, and the meal would have to pretty fantastic for me to spend 5000 baht. While I love good wine, I'm simply not willing to pay 3000 baht for a mediocre wine I could buy at home for $10-20. SO like many others here, I generally don't drink wine at restuarants in Thailand.

We have a bottle of wine (usually a red) with dinner nearly every night. And that includes while vacationing in Thailand. Yes, wine is expensive in Thailand, no question. It is a large portion of the bill; and if you have more than one bottle, it can add up quickly.
I recall that dinner inside the dome at State Tower. It wasn't two people, it was four. DH and I were there with Brad and friend. We may have had several bottles of wine that night... (smile) And no, I would not go back to the Dome to eat. It really wasn't that great... and the place was really COLD inside. The management gave us two ladies each a shawl to wrap up in.
I'm anxious to try The Long Table. Our German friends who were with us in Thailand for nearly 3 weeks (Apr/May) really LOVED the place and would go back again. They went with Brad after I had left Bangkok to return home. Sorry I missed it!
FROM MY TRIP REPORT from 2006:
Mezzaluna prices were about 1100-3900 baht for entrees. Salads from 510-750 baht. Pasta was 600-900 baht. My journal says that we thought that the food presentation was lovely and the service was excellent (but must not have been memorable!!). There were 4 of us, and we had two bottles of Chilean merlot with dinner (3500 baht each) so our total bill, with tip, was 20,000 baht. Husband, if I recall, did not think his chicken was cooked enough.

I should add that we don't necessarily eat out every night. And we certainly don't spend 20k baht every night either. But a dinner for 2/4 will easily run 3-5k baht, and we do that fairly often. We might also have in-room pizza or salads from a deli. We buy bottles of wine at the super market where prices are more "reasonable"... that's a relative term... lol. Since we stay in apartments, we have a regular size fridge and cupboard space so we can stock up on stuff we like to eat.

I'm sorry it has been delayed!! I think Brad should have stopped by your place himself. Maeng was in the hospital for minor procedure and hopefully is doing better now.
Please let me know when you get the delivery. I'll have to email Maeng and see if it can't be sped up a bit!! Sorry for the delay!!
