New BKK restaurant recommendation

You may or may not read my "Hello from BKK" thread so I'll post a new thread so you can all read about a great restaurant we tried last night in Bangkok.

Mistral is the name. It has a sister restaurant in Seattle. The location is on the lower level of Gaysorn Plaza. The menu is French (?)... like La Normandie... but you don't have to wear coat and tie.

There is a main dining area, like all restaurants. But there are also three smaller private diningrooms. We ate in a private room. The table would probably seat 8 to 10 people comfortably. S

The service was fantastic (but we were the only ones in the place)... and the food was all top shelf. We tried (among other things) lamb, frog legs, artichoke soup, foie gras, sashimi, chocolate desserts... everything was delicious.

I would recommend this place for a special dinner, as the price was not cheap. Four of us ate full meals (one was a 7-course) plus a bottle of Calif red wine for 14,000bt. The ambiance is not that of a Bed or Face. I mean, the place is located in a shopping mall, so it can't be too "far out." But the food and service are really superior.

You might give it a try.

Carol, I always appreciate your restaurant recommendations. I've been so busy I haven't been able to keep up with your Bangkok thread. If you have other new restaurant recommendations, please post them here.

I have eaten at Mistral here in Seattle. I have to admit that I rarely eat anything other than Asia food in Bangkok, but it's a good one to know about.

carol, we have a mistral in boston as well...wonder if they are all connected...it is one of the top places here...

That's very possible. Our waiter was quick to point out the Seattle connection, but only because he had spent time there. He maybe did not know about Boston.

Here's another suggestion. The friend who recommended Mistral told us of yet another new place to try. There is no time for me to do this as I'm having my last BKK dinner at Sacz in a matter of about an hour.

Barbaska (sp) is located on soi 22. It is an Australian place. Supposed to be really good. (I'm thinkin' croc, emu, shrimp, vegemite...) Not sure of the menu, but friend said it's really very good. It's way down soi 22 in a big private house.

I don't believe there is any connection between the Boston and the Seattle/Bangkok Mistral restaurants.

There is zero chance that Bob would go to any branch of any restaurant that costs that much. He can't even spell profligate and has no idea what it means. It might as well be Urdu.
