Bob,
Elephant and Thai food with foie gras... only one place that will have all that - the Blue Elephant restaurant. Had a bowl of noodle with duck and foie gras the other day and it was strange tasting!

The food at Blue Elephant is too fusion for me and I don't like it. They're making big investments in Thailand with 1 main restaurant, several sub "mini" restaurants in malls and frozen food at the supermarket.

Don't forget to add Kinnaree on soi 8 to your list. If you like Italian, try Via Vai also on soi 8, directly across from Adelphi Suites.
When do you leave? DS goes tomorrow, and I leave next Thurs.
See you in BKK!!

The Blue Elephant has a great (but pricey) cooking school - mixed reviews on the restaurant though...
Bob, do report on Kinnaree - I've been meaning to look up Carol's original post and reposting the request here but she beat me to it (Thanks, Carol!)
and of course, a review of AUBERGINE would be helpful - the tiny Thai ladies will be there to help you up the steep cement steps...

Hi Bob,
Eiterh you are going to be in BKK for a long time or you are bouncing back again in June when we are planning to meet up. I'll be curious to find out how you like some of these restaurants being mentioned since we will be looking for good places to eat also. Especially any that are good and also have reasonable prices. DH added a trip to Istanbul with his brother just prior to Thailand (I have to work - bummer) so our budget may be stretched a little thinner than we thought.
See you in a couple of months!

For something totally casual, but very tasty try one of the Coffee Beans by Dao restaurants. The ones on Ekkamai, Raumrudee, or Ratchadamri all serve food. Other locations (Central World & Silom) only serve cakes. I like both their Thai food and Western. Plus their cakes are delicious.

Hey, I'm retired too (yeah, right) or I thought I was. After 33 years of teaching 6-year olds how to read, I am now busier than I ever was before retiring. Owning a small business with DH means I can leave "when I want to" but I can't be gone for more than a couple of weeks at a time, at the most. Payroll, taxes, etc... UGH
Have a great time, B and K. See you at the GTG.

How about reviewing some of the many food courts in Bangkok? Have you been to the "Loft" in Central Chidlom department store? It would be great to get some feedback on some of the more casual dinning experiences that are on offer, particularly for us poor souls still travelling with small children (bless their souls)

Tong gave us the choice of Chote Chitr or a seafood place in Chinatown & I chose the later. She took us to this corner restaurant where they set out tables out by the side walk & close to the curb. I think it was called T& K or was it K& T. I loved the ambiance. So much was going on. There were lots of people waiting. Anyway, the roasted crab with roe was my favorite & great with rice. Tong & I had one whole each. KT loved the morning glory side. My kids asked for another order of the very fresh gigantic salted prawns which they pulled out of the tank.
