new bangkok hotel

i just noticed that marriott intends to open its first courtyard hotel in the summer of 2007 in bangkok...

the location is down the soi between the four seasons hotel and the peninsula plaza...

might be worth checking out....great location

Craig Feb 18th, 2007 03:39 AM

rhkkmk Feb 18th, 2007 05:35 AM

harsha, in case you didn't know, Craig and Bob are friends. It's a running joke about how much Bob likes the Marriott Resort and Spa in Bangkok. Don't worry the responses were in good humor.

Gpanda Feb 18th, 2007 09:38 AM

The joke is that Bob is so in love with various Marriott's that it is amazing, but true that he receives no financial benefit. I would actually rather have him get paid than to be able to say "I told you so" as often as he does. Even Beth was taken with the river Marriott.

I was wondering what that hotel was going to be. They have been building it for about two years. A good friend lives in a condo across the street.

It is a fantastic location.

rhkkmk Feb 18th, 2007 04:45 PM

someone had said that it was going to be condos or serviced apartments for the 4 seasons, so this moderate chain will fit in nicely....

SueHuml Feb 18th, 2007 05:55 PM

This will be a nice addition especially for us Marriot types.

However, I also found out that Marriott are planning a new type of Asian time share. They will be ready in about 18 months to 2 years but are taking several top floors of already established hotels throughout Asia and turning them into short term (i.e. 2-3-4 day intervals ) time share rentals.
It seems that the Asian population takes 3-4 days vacation rather than a week at a time and they are looking at selling this type of time share on points rather than weeks. It will be interesting to see how this develops.

Oops!Missed the joke by a mile.
Many responses which are hostile to posts with authentic info, is what prompted me to respond.
Due apologies Craig.Continue bashing

This Asia forum is not like some of the others on this site. We on the Asia board are "friends"... and a lot of us have actually met face to face at various GTG's (get togethers). If you are near to GTG location sometime, you should join in. This Asia forum has a lot of really lovely people.

Let the bantering contiue!!! lol

rhkkmk Feb 19th, 2007 07:06 AM

simpsonc510 Feb 19th, 2007 07:17 AM

"... mean spirited..." NOT

Warm, light-hearted fun? Absolutely. Even you, Bob!

harsha, there are a couple of posters who hang out here just to make nasty comments. fuzzylogoc comes to mind, or even nastier, merckxxx. But most of what you'll see here, are friendly jabs.

harsha Feb 19th, 2007 08:31 PM

That is more than likely the property that I was told, by the Four Seasons staff, that was supposed to be the Ritz Carlton. The last time I stayed at the Four Seasons...summer 2005...I think it was, I could see the construction site. I was told then that a hotel structure was being built, but that the Ritz Carlton might be pulling out of the deal. That's probably also the site that a man recently wrote into the Bangkok Post about because of horrible noise and construction workers working around the clock. He wrote that he lives in an apartment building nearby and gets no sleep. I had no problem sleeping and I'm a light sleeper. Happy Travels!
