Need Koh Samui to Chiang Mai travel advice!
Hello everyone. I am trying to find the cheapest way to travel from Ko Samui to Chiang Mai the end of January. I realize it's a little backwards but that's how we're doing it. Any advice? Thank you so much!

take a look at bangkok air as they are the only ones to fly into samui

What about this Surat Thani city?

Surat Thani is a ferry ride away from Koh Samui. You could take the ferry from Koh Samui to Surat Thai. There are flights from there to Bangkok, on Air Asia, you'd have to transfer in Bangkok to a flight to CM. Air Asia is a budget Airline. Basically, it will take you all day, but it should be reasonably priced.

As Kathie says the ferry/bus to the Surat Thani airport to catch Air Asia 12.30 flight to Bangkok and then their 15.20 flight to Chiang Mai. If booked at least a month in advanve and depending what day you fly expect the airfare to be around $80.
You could also take the overnight train to Bangkok (10hrs) and then the overnight one to CM (14hrs). This would save about $30 but it is a long train ride for such a small saving. The cheapest is by bus but it is a long trip like the train but a few hours shorter. |
Thank you! I think I will go with the flight to Bangkok and then Chiang Mai but I'm not sure if I should book the earlier or later one. Does anyone know how long the ferry rides will be? I'll be going from Phangan to Samui to Surat Thani. Thanks again

I would definitely do the Bangkok Airways pass for this. This is already 2 legs, so it will be cheaper and more convenient overall, and on a much nicer airline. KPN to Samui is only a 20-30 min ferry ride. The flight to BKK via the pass is $66 and the flight to CM $55.
