please look at the marriott resort and spa in bangkok (also in hua hin near cha am)...we love this amer/thai group who run these...the pool in bkk is the best you will find..in nov we will be there for the 5th time..
i read that the regent in cha am is not "the regent" of some fame...beware...
the green hills in chaing mai is nice---used to be a holiday inn...we stayed at the westin--not too thai but very nice and quite cheap

I agree with Bob, if you stay at the Marriott in Bangkok and the Marriott Hua Hin you can get good deals, you might be lucky and get a free transfer between them! The Regent at Cha Am in my opinion is too far out, and I have a personal 'thing' about hotels that won't let local taxis operate and merely try to get you to use their shuttles (which you pay for). Marriott is so quiet yet you can just wander into town. I have not stayed at the Empress but it seems to get ok reviews.

Thanks for the above two replies - do appreciate it - just looked into a tour with Grand Circle - they use the hotels I inquired about - if I decide to go with them I hope I will not be sorry with the hotels especially in Cha Am if it is too far removed and also their attitude with regards to taxis being allowed on their property.
Thanks again

I considered the Regent CHa-Am. It's way too far away from anything. I would go with the Marriot HUa Hin. BEautiful grounds. Nice rooms and edecent beach and very friendly staff. I would defintiely stay there again if I went back to Hua HIn. I highly recommend it.

The Marriot is right on the beach, same as most of the hotels. It is value for money. If you want cheaer try the Sirin Beach that is only about 2 minutes further, a bit old now but gardens and pools right onto the sands.

We stayed at the Regent Cha-Am. It was fabulous. A little further out than the Marriott Resort but it was worth it. You will not be sorry. Had friends who stayed at the Empress in Chiang Mai and loved it. Hotel was located in the center of town. Enjoy your trip!
