Let us know what you need a travel agent for and maybe we can be of more assistance. I never used any kind of travel agent in Laos, for instance.

I traveled in Myanmar in November 2005 and had a wonderful travel agency. They are Rubyland tourism services, www.rubyland.net, [email protected]
They woke up an agent in Bagan to pick me up at 6:00 am, take me to the airport and find me a plane ticket since the train was delayed. They changed reservations when Air Mandalay cancelled a flight and I spent an extra day in Mandalay and then - I got sick in Yangon on my way out of the country. They changed my ticket, found a physician. brought him to my hotel and purchased and delivered my meds for me. UNBELIEVABLE. Like having a guardian angel. ALSO - I recommend 2 guides, Sai Moon Sein email: [email protected] tel 02-80351 in Mandalay and Novelty Tour Services at Inle Lake ph (081)29232. If you book direct with these folks they give the same service and don't split the money with all the others down the line. Rubyland will work with you to book as much or as little of your trip as you want. They will also book the above 2 local guides = but then the guides make so much less and they do so much for you. |
We've been considering the idea of planning a trip to Myanmar and were intrigued by this thread. We like to be pretty independent when we travel (booking on our own or doing parts of a trip through a local agent). We would be really interested to hear of your experience as you plan your trip -- we wondered if planning a trip in Myanmar was easy to do without using an out-of-country operator. One question for those who have been -- we read that Nov-March is the best time for a trip to Myanmar, but are wondering about travel there in the May-Sept period. Is it a bad idea to visit in the rainy season?
