Grand Circle used United Airlines for the flights to China with very good connections. Our relative had trouble sleeping on the flights (coach is never very comfortable for long-haul), so she arrived a little tired. Given that, she was glad that she had not been matched with a roommate for the trip (she had volunteered, but ended up with a single room and was quite glad in the end). She had no sickness and no troubles at all on the trip. Even had good luck with purchases -- everything she had shipped from China arrived in the US (a little later than promised, but no big deal). She really could not say enough good things about Grand Circle and is already thinking of which of their trips she'll take next -- feels it is a great option for a single traveler of her age. Don't know if she was just lucky, or perhaps Grand Circle has fixed the problems that others complained about. Either way, her China trip was a great success. Thanks again to all for the advice!

Thx for your update on your relative's travel experiences with GCT in China.
I'm mid 50s and have done 3 GCT trips solo (Russia Rivercruise, Mexico Copper Canyon, Thailand). The Mexico and Thailand trips were pretty reasonable, even with the single supplement.
I'm looking in to doing China with GCT next year so I appreciate this feedback.
