Hi Gloria, just to let you know that I just came back from Bangkok and went to Cotton House for my skirts. They were fast and did a good job. Prices were reasonable. Labour charge was $25 per skirt. Thanks once again for your recommendation and I have said hi to them on your behalf.

can you tell us a little about what they offer at cotton house...is it all cotton and linen ? how do their prices seem for regular things, like dresses and shirts/blouses....do they do men's?

KB-- glad Cotton House worked out for you and thanks for sending my greetings.

RHKKMK-Cotton House has all fabrics -- thai silk, chinese silk, linen, wool ( a lot of that), old thai fabrics, blends and cottons. They actually have less cotton than other things -- no idea why they named it that. Since they have a lot of wool I assume they do men's clothing but I'm not sure.

All of their prices seem reasonable to me and at the time I first went to them were a bit cheaper than JS Thai. I've been happy with them and I like the fact that they can make clothes for the office as well as for dress -- i.e. silks that are less dressy than Thai.

emtravel : Cotton House is located on the ground floor of the Oriental Place. Its a mall across from the Oriental Hotel. The hotel staff will be able to point you to the right direction.

Rhkkmk : I personally feel this shop is better for ladies. When we were there, all their customers were ladies. I personally like their selection of fabrics, nice cotton stripes, florals and wools. Nice thai silk as well. My friend spent $118 on a jacket and long linen dress inclusive of fabric. I had 2 fancy skirts done for $25 each and a normal a-line skirt for $14. I brought my own fabric and designs for them to replicate. Think you could try out this other tailor called Tramp on the 2nd or 3rd floor. Its a men's tailor, read about them somewhere on the net that they are quite good.

KB-- You're right about Tramps on the 2nd floor of Oriental Place -- it does wonderful work for men, However, it is definitely not cheap. They have gorgeous wools and absolutely specialize in men.

I know that jack will be there on sundays.

cruisinred Jan 9th, 2005 11:29 AM

I just emailed Jack at Il Sarto, because I am arriving on a Sunday and have limited time to have things made. He said he is open from 1-6pm on Sundays.

travelduo Jan 9th, 2005 12:32 PM

cruisinred, have you met jack before? if not he is one of the nicest people we have ever met!

cruisinred Jan 9th, 2005 12:36 PM

Travelduo- I haven't met Jack before, but we are going to BKK in March, staying at the Marriott Resort (like so many other fodorites). May I ask what you had Jack make for you? Were you happy with the items you choose?
I was about to buy several new suits for work, but I thought I would just wait to go to BKK and have them made.

travelduo Jan 9th, 2005 12:46 PM

The clothes he made for me were AWESOME!!!!!!!! The only clothes that really fit me that we got in bkk were from him beacuse i am 6'3" and nothing else really fit! He mad me 2 suits with pants, a cashmere blazer, several shirts, and he gave me a few ties:) There is nothing else in the world like a custom tailored suit! make sure you can have enough time for 2 or 3 fittings! the price i paid for all that is about the same price as 1 suit from mens warehouse. I think that the cashmere blazer is my favorite thing i own, its so cold here where we live and that thing keeps me sooo warm and everyone asks about it! when you go into his shop look for the turtles on the floor on your right! anything else you need just ask! Travelduo - did you get the material from Jack, or did you bring your own? Thanx in advance...

travelduo Jan 10th, 2005 03:01 PM

I got everything from him. I had heard other people talking about bbringing their own, but we just chose from what he had, and there was a ton to choose from!

rhkkmk Jan 10th, 2005 05:09 PM

i ahve used jack for a number of years and am always satisfied with everything....have as many fittings as you can fit in....he sometimes will have a fitting on day two....one caution...if you get cotton shirts made, allow plenty of length for the sleeves....i have had trouble will all sleeve lengths from all bkk tailors...they shrink quite a bit....length only....???

js thai silk does not have a web site or e-mail as of last may....its is fantastic and quick...mainly ladies stuff and probably 75% silk....

rhkkmk Jan 10th, 2005 05:10 PM

also i am a very large guy and they fit me beautifully...the jacket i had made in june fits me better than any i have ever had before according to my wife---from jack...
