Navigating Beijing by Metro (Subway)
I can't now find the original thread, but I once posted a link to a list of Beijing metro stations with tone marks and characters, showing all the sights to be found near each of them. This was well received when last posted, and has now been updated to include the newly opened extension to Line 6.
See https://medium.com/a-better-guide-to...y-9f7a6f1831e2 Warning: Medium isn't accessible in China unless you have a working VPN, so if necessary download the list to something portable or print it out before departure. |
Thanks so much, temppeternh!

In Beijing, the subway is the way to go for sure. It takes you to all the main tourist attractions except the Great Wall.
I like this mobile app https://explorebj.com/subway/ The subway expanded so much that you can no longer read the map on the back of the tickets. It also gives you the shortest route. If you have data, you can also use the area map around the station. It also helps you find the subway stop nearest to where you are. There are also useful YouTube videos showing you how it works (essentially, no knowledge of Chinese required): |
