National/Golden Week, Oct. 2011 Guilin?
 

I was thinking of ending our fall trip to China with a three day visit to Guilin. I've learned that it will be during National Day and the Golden Week that follows. Should we still go to Guilin or fly to Hanoi a few days earlier than planned and spend more time there?
If Guilin and Yangshou will be a mob scene, it won't be good experience for us even if we are able to book flights and good hotels.

Hanoi. No question. I was in Hangzhou for National Day 2004 and it was wall-to-wall people, as was Beijing station the night before!

And more time in Hanoi sounds like a good choice too.
I guess the reson I have been having trouble booking flights is due to the holiday too.

I planned my upcoming trip to China in October to arrive at the end of National day week so as to avoid the crowds after getting advice here to do so.

I have decided to skip Guilin this trip. Now I have to decide whether to leave China(Shanghai) on 9/29 or 9/30 for Hanoi. I prefer 9/30 but do worry about the extra crowds at the airport.
