Naraiphand Moving
 

I mentioned this might be coming a while back. Now it looks like it's official: the main Naraiphand store will be moving from its current location across from Central World, around the corner to President Tower - aka the Intercontinental Hotel.

The email announcement just said this would happen 'soon'.

They have always had a craft-type store in the back of the Intercon, but it doesn't have much space. I hope Naraiphand has plenty of room in the new location. I always enjoy looking there.

Another Q: what happens to the building where Narai is right now? I also LOVE the basement shops there, and the Khun Daeng shop. Is the bldg being demolished for more shopping centers????

The branch that I usually go to in Amarin Plaza has closed. I went there a few weeks ago to find that it was gone. Both stores need to move to a more visible and less dreary location. Happy Travels!

The land and building where Naraiphand is now is owned by the Mall Group, the people behind Emporium and Siam Paragon. It was too small 30 years ago when they leased it to the Ministry of Industry (the people who run Naraiphand) but now, in that part of town, nothing is "too small" to be developed.

The building will be torn down and replaced by something. No idea what yet. I suspect that, like Suan Lum, they'll try and get the basement vendors to relocate to the new Sunday Market going up next to Chatuchak.
