Myanmar

Looking for the cheapest flight from Chiang Mai to Yangon. If necessary, from Bangkok. As well, suggestions for a 5 or 6 day private English speaking tour guide.
Thanks

The cheapest way to go would probably be a combination of Thai Airways for the Chiang Mai - Bangkok leg and Bangkok Airways to get from Bangkok to Myanmar. Switching airlines might be a bit of a hassle though.

We used Santa Maria in Yangon to do our tour and they were excellent. 5 to 6 days is not a lot of time. I would focus on Bagan and Inle Lake.

I actually did email them & am waiting a response. Please suggest a preferred itinerary for 5-6 days. What would the approx cost be? We generally stay in 3* accom. What type of accom shoud we expect in that range? We could go longer if we don't go to Angkar Wat.Note that we prefer magnificent scenery & unique people to oodles of temples. Thanks for your help.

In January 05, we flew direct from Chiang Mai to Mandalay on Air Mandalay. There was also a direct flight to Yangon, 2 days a week. It was a good price and very convenient, but getting the tickets was an ordeal.

I used www.rubyland.net for travel arrangements.

If I was going for only 5-6 days I would go to Yangon and Inle Lake.

And I wouldn't sacrifice Angkor Wat.

The cheapest flight from BKK to Yangon is usually Myanmar airlines - government owed I believe-while most people who choose to travel there try to avoid money directly to the government.

I'm pretty sure that they've stop the Chiang Mai - Mandalay flight a while ago.

CNX - BKK by a low cost airline will be the most economical and then take Air Asia to Yangon from Bangkok for a very low price. The only bad thing is that the BKK - Yangon flight depart quite early for both Air Asia and Thai so you will probably have to over night in Bangkok. I think Bangkok Airways fly there too and they depart a little later in the day.
