Myanmar

is anyone familiar with available airport transfers to hotels in yangoon? my last visit i booked from bkk. i used an all inclusive driver/tour, and didnt pay much attention to alternate transportation.

i know this may be too advanced, which is past of the charm! i cant wait for the curling, yellowed linolium floors, garish flourescent lighting and plasic chairs reminiscent of the trailways bus terminal in gary indiana at 3AM.

When I was in Yangon last month I took a taxi and the benefit was that you can just choose the taxi that you want(from a car, station wagon to vans). Most of them are in pretty bad shape but there are some ok cars and vans there.

Our hotel(the Strand) was charging US $45 ++ a trip for transport in an old Volvo sedan and the taxi only cost us $5.

Arrange through your hotel for a taxi pickup. That way you know that you have a taxi waiting for you and you don't have the hassle of porters and drivers vying for your attention.

thanks very much for the replies and info. that old volvo is a classic! i guess they dont make enough with the room charge of $250++. their labor costs must be close to zero!
