My trip report from Phnom Penh

Hi

My wife and I went to Vietnam and Cambodia during Easter this year. This is the last part of the trip report and this time we have come to Phnom Penh, the capitol of Cambodia. It is not really a main tourist destination and it does not have a number of attractions like some other cities. But we got to experience a city where people were celebrating New Year with dancing and games in the street. But places like Tuol Sleng S-21 tourture prison and killing fields reminded us about the tragic past of this country with the rule of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. Well, here is the trip report with photos, videos, links etc: http://gardkarlsen.com/Phnom_Penh_Ca...rip_report.htm . I hope that it can give you an idea of how we experienced the city.

Another great report Gard. Reading your reports always makes me want to visit the place. thank you.

Did you negotiate the prices and paid the tuk tuk drivers/ guides, etc. in US dollars?

Hi

Thanks for the kind feedback. Yes, we had to negotiate the price when going with tuk-tuk's. It seemed like they had all agreed on the same price from our hotel to the downtown area so there was not that much room for bargaining ;-) But a good suggestion is always to agree on the price before to take the ride.

Thanks Gard, I've been enjoying both your Siem Reap and Phnom Penh reports...

5 point deduction for letting 6 months transpire prior to completing report.

I was also in Cambodia recently. I loved Siem Reap- it's pace of life, the markets, the busy streets, and the people. Phnom Penh was a completely different story. A much more chaotic and intense city. It was especially hard to see landmine victims around. My family and I didn't dare go to the killing fields or the S21 torture museum- we had heard that they were really hard to deal with and we didn't think we could handle the harsh exposure to the country's hard history
