Must sees and dos in KL???
 

Hi there,
will be in KL for 3 nights on the way home from a big trip in Europe.
What do you recommend seeing and doing in this short time?
We are staying at the Grand Plaza park Royal?

You can go to visit Petronas Twin Towers, Sunway Lagoon Theme Park, Batu Caves

Take the hop on hop off bus http://www.myhoponhopoff.com/ and get a feel for KL. It will take you to most of the attractions. We were in KL this past Feb and enjoyed the following:

- Petronas Towers and shopping/walking around the KLCC/park esp at night
- KL Tower
- Bird Park and Orchid Gardens
- Central Market and nearby Chinatown on Jalan Petaling
- Batu Caves is in the outskirts of the city so we took a taxi out there

Try Rotiboy and Nando's at KLCC for snacks and cheap eats.

Have a great time -- we did.

There aren't really many "must sees and dos" in KL. I enjoyed the Central Market as I'm interested in crafts. There is lots of good food, and there are many lovely hotels.

Assaid the Petronas Tower and Central Market are worth seeing and going up the Tower, though you don't go to the very top.The KLCC is an interesting shoopping mall and different than the US but not a bargain shoppers dream. The Batu Caves are interesting but are somewhat smelly and dirty and if walking is any problem you do have to walk up 300 little steps as I remember through not steep at all. All of the above can be done in 4-5 hours. Some folks don't agree with me but others are as impressed as I was with the Cammeron Highlands. You need to hire a driver with a sturdy car for toward the end the road is a little steep but not "hair-pin" turns. You will see groves and groves of tea plantations as far as the eyes can see. About 25 miles before you get to the highlands you will see several nomad tribes that live like gypsies. They live in shackds partially because they move from place to place in the country every few years. The big drawback is it is a 7 hour round trip with modest traffic getting in and out of KL and there is not much to see along the way but the Highlands are in our opinion memorable. The cost usually is $125/person because of the mileage put on the car and it is an 10-11 hour day. Yes, a long way to go but you really only need 1 to 1 1/2 days in KL. Frasier Hill is a waste of time in our opinion and that's a 3 hour outing.

If you're staying in the Park Royal at Bukit Bintang, a buzzy place where the locals eat is Bintang Walk specifically Jalan Alor (http://www.kuala-lumpur.ws/klareas/b...ng_dining.html). It's open-air by the road and has all sorts of yummy food. Then across the road is Sungai Wang for cheaper products compared to the other malls nearby.
Every one has mentioned Petronas Twin Towers which are very impressive. I'd skip Sunway as it's just a small theme park. Chinatown is certainly interesting but go in the late afternoon or early evening as there is a street market where they sell cheap stuff. Beware of your personal belongings when walking around KL. Then there's a big Hindu temple near Chinatown (http://www.masindian.com/Temples_in_malaysia.asp) and a not as old but big Chinese temple overlooking Jalan Syed Putra (http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguid...O8aPpOnBlUFWoL) and many beautiful mosques (eg in Shah Alam) but the latter are generally not open to tourists.
KL has interesting architecture eg Selangor Club, Daya Bumi and especially Sultan Abu Samad (used to be the central railway station) in the Tuanku Abdul Rahman area.
For full day trips, I'd recommend the fireflies in Kuala Selangor or to a fishing village on stilts called Pulau Ketam. But if you only have 3 nights then I would just hang around KL.

I wasn't impressed by the Batu caves... The KL tower is worth going up. Also, the skybridge of the Petronas, but you have to go early to secure tickets. It was interesting walking around the Selangor Club area. Also, Petaling street is worth walking down but very crowded. Nothing much to buy though. Loved Central Market.

We stayed at the Traders Hotel near KLCC and the Skybar on the top floor was very happening if you're looking for a night out.

We stayed 4 nights at the Mandarin Oriental which is right next to the Petronas Towers. I would have to say that one thing we really enjoyed in KL was every night we hung out on the plaza outside the Towers. It's a favourite place for the locals to visit. There are good outdoor cafes often with entertainment. All in all a really nice place to relax in the evening. Also the food at the Mandarin is outstanding.
