Must eat in Bangkok
Hi! Anyone have suggestion on what are the must eat food/restaurant at Bangkok. Local or international cuisine. Thanks!

"Pu pad pong karee" - curried crab - is definitely a must try.
One of my favorite dishes is "khao mun kai" - Thai chicken rice. The Thai sauce is what sets it apart from Hianese chicken rice. "Gaengsom cha oam" - tamarind soup with omelet - is a tasty option. Here are some restaurant suggestions: http://cheapeatsbangkok.com |
GPandas' recommendation of Harmoniqe is very good. We have eaten there several times over many trips and never a thumbs down dish has been served to us.
I wonder if this great establishment will continue to serve such great food as the two women owners are getting up ther in age but add a delightful extra to the amibience,. The last time we went was for a late lunch and the two sisters were in the ante room chatting and smiling, we asked if we coud take their picture and they happily agreed. It's a very special memory photo that we have. We have ordered perhaps twenty different Thai dishes from the menu and not one single dish was a disappointment to us. I thank this Fodors website for telling us about this place to begin with. Sue |
Cheap eats please and maybe one special dinner for my family (that a 9 year old will also enjoy). BTW, we'll be staying at Pullman Hotel so hope you can recommend places with in the area. Is Home Kitchen any good? Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm new here and it's such a big help.

Cheap Eats - my fave is Chote Chitr. Do a search here and you'll find directions on how to find it. Harmonique counts as cheap eats (not as cheap as CC, but still cheap). For a more expensive dinner with great food and great ambiance, try Lanna Thai at Face. www.facebars.com click on Bangkok.

You didn't say where you are staying. This could help with suggestions.
If you would like a little adventure for lunch, you might like to head to Baan Rabiang Nam. It's a riverside eatery, about a 5 kilometer taxi ride north of the Nonthaburi pier. Beside dining on great seafood, with very reasonable prices, in a nice setting, you will also enjoy the boat ride up to Nonthaburi. While in Nonthaburi, you could also take in the free museum and possibly head a short walk inland to the big, local market. On the ride up to the restaurant you will also pass Bangkwang Prison, the famous "Bangkok Hilton". There is also Rim Fung, an eatery right at the Nonthaburi pier. You can flag a taxi or, if you like adventure, hop on the # 16 bus, out front of Siam Square.
