Must dos in Bangkok
I have posted before about being in Thailand for the first time in December 2005 with my family that includes a 7 year old boy (who is very well travelled for his age). We will probably be there about 5-6 days. What are the must dos? We are adventurous and can fit in a lot in a day. Shopping advise would be great and I would love to have the restaurant list that someone referred to in a post.
Also is Bangkok hot and humid in December too? Thanks again to the few regulars who take their time to help newbies plan their trips. Your advise is invaulable. |
bkk is very hot and humid in dec. as it is all year...that will slow you way down...i suggest you have a hotel with a pool
for kids there is a nice zoo near to the parliament bldg...there are other activities but others will have to chime in.. i have a restaurant list...ask me at: [email protected] and i will send it to you after 10-24----i will be away |
The weather at the end of last December in Bangkok was quite pleasant. Hot, maybe, but there was a good breeze and plenty of city shade. Not particularly humid.

You might want to get these two books from Nancy Chandler - www.nancychandler.net, they may also be available from Amazon
-Nancy Chandler’s Thailand Activity Book -Sue Adam’s Kids in Bangkok - cards covering 52 things to do in Bangkok with the whole family Also, take a look at this post for previous advice on things to do in Bangkok for children around the age of your son http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34670253 |
End of December is usually very nice, for Thailand that is. At night we even wear light jackets! Humidity will be very low and expect daytime temperature at around 20 - 30 degree Celsius and night time can drop below 20. This is our winter and it can last from 1 week to 1 month with mild and pleasant temperature.
Towards the new year Bangkok is quite festive. Try to do the outdoor activities during this time of the year as the weather is the nicest. Go to the weekend market(JJ market), Jazz festival(usually around this time of the year) will have a lot of top musician from around the world, play golf, river cruises, dine al-fresco etc. For kids there's Safari World, Dream World and Suan Siam - these are all theme park. |
Bob how come your assessment of the weather for December is so different from other member's posts. I will email you for the restaurant list. Thank you. Thanks to every one who replied.

We were in Bangkok Dec/Jan 2002/2003 and again in 2003/2004 for a few days each time. In 2002/2003 it was mostly very hot and humid. In 2003/2004 it was more tolerable but certainly not like spring or fall in the U.S.

I've lived in Bangkok for more than a dozen years now. There's usually (though not always) about a week in December when the weather is actually pleasant. This usually falls between Xmas and New Years. The weather has been so crazy this year that I would not want to predict whether we'll have a cooler than normal December, or a hotter one.
