Just search with Google. You'll get tons of choie.

All muslim restaurants i have seen in china had some arabic script on the front window. Some have small crescent moons too. Mutton is popular. Have never seen the word 'halal' written in romanized script, in chinese muslim restaurants.

Thanks a lot JPDeM and jobin for the advice.
I am mainly talking about the foreign halal restaurants in China, I know there are many local ones, but those are usually smaller. The following places I found in a forum. Xian has a major Muslim neighborhood. Visited in 1984, when one of its mosques was under constuction...returned in 2007 to find that the neighborhood had greatly enlarged. Restos on every corner. Just don't recall the names as we opted for the more traditional Chinese.

In Xi'an you don't need names, just wander the Muslim district until you find something that looks good. But the OP isn't going to Xi'an.
If halal matters, find the Chinese characters for halal, write them down, and show the paper to the restaurant - or check the signs outside for a match. |
The characters for 'halal' are the same as those for 'Muslim' and 'Islam':
清真 These are clearly visible outside all Islamic restaurants, often with a bit of Arabic and a green-and-white colour scheme. Xinjiang or Huizu people running the place is as close as you're going to get to guaranteeing a halal menu. Except perhaps for some Muslim fast food outlets (Malan, for instance), I don't think I've ever seen Han working in a 清真 restaurant, and I'm not sure I've seen them there. > Alsafa Arabic Restaurant and Coffee Shop Is a Beijing restaurant, not a Guangzhou one. At least, the address given is a Beijing address. For lists of restaurants just look at the sites for the expat magazines in the cities you're visiting: Time Out, City Weekend, That's Beijing/Guangzhou, The Beijinger, etc. Not always professional or reliable, but certainly with lists. For local views (as corrupt if not more so than any other user-contributed review site) see dianping.com Choose the characters for your city from the drop down menu top left. Paste the characters provided above into the search menu. Copy the URL of the resulting page into translate.google.com. Here are the results for Beijing, for instance: http://www.dianping.com/search/keyword/2/0_清真 And here's the 'translated' version (English versions of restaurant names often wrong--refer back to Chinese originals): https://translate.google.com/transla...95;&edit-text= |
Sorry. Site won't allow the link without garbling it, so you'll have to perform the search yourself as described.
