Mumbai in June
 

I have no choice but to consider a business trip to Mumbai in June (monsoon season...). I can't do the first 3 weeks due to conflicts which leaves the last week in June. Am I doomed to torrential rains and delays (coming from NYC).

I have a slight chance to do last week in May but with visa requirements probably unrealistic.

Open to feedback and general suggestions as a first time (solo female) visitor!

June is the beginning of the monsoon season, although the last week can see heavier rains. Bombay can have flooding and transportation issues during the monsoons, there aren't frequent power outages like in some other parts of India. You don't say how long your trip will be, or where you will be staying. Hopefully your hotel will be close to where you work, and they will make sure you get where you want to efficiently. I would advise you to pick a reliable business hotel close to where you will need to be for work, take cars provided by your hotel, and not wander around unless you need to. I assume you don't intend to extend your trip for leisure?

It will be raining all right but the city will keep moving. I would wear shoes I don't mind getting wet in and so with trousers etc. Carry an umbrella. Stay close to your place of business. A distance of 8km will take around an hour to reach, so check distances before you book your hotel.

Do not eat fish during this period. Eat only well cooked stuff.

But on the other hand, monsoons can be beautiful. When the rain pauses it's beautiful to be at the sea side promenades. Green neighbourhoods look gorgeous. If you had the time, a small drive outside mumbai would be very rewarding with lush greens and thousands of trickling waterfalls down the Sahyadri Mountains.

Have you obtained your visa for India. I hope it was not a difficult process.
I found it a bit hard to fill the form on-line.
Hope your plans for Mumbai are shaping up. Remember to take good shoes that will be suitable for wet weather as sometimes there maybe puddles to jump over as drainage is not the best!
Another idea--carry a tiny washcloth in your purse so that in case you are out and about in the rain and get your arms, face wet, you can dry off little bit. Most rest rooms may not have paper towels, thus good to be prepared.
