Moving to India for 6 Months
 

Hello, I could really use some help! I plan on moving to India for 6 months from America, and would like the entire India experience, with a strict budget. I'm moving there to interact with the people and the many cultures, and will be photographing and writing a book about my adventure. For anyone who has been there, what places have changed you, and what places are the most beautiful and moving? Any places unsafe? Should I hire a cheap bodyguard to come with me? I'm researching and have found some places to visit, and the tourist attractions will be nice to see, but I really to wish and live the complete heart of India. I'm a single white female traveling alone, and I'm not afraid to go by myself, but some pointers would really help. !

"Should I hire a cheap bodyguard to come with me?" Really? Do you have any guidebooks? While people's personal recommendations are valuable, there is no substitute for doing your own research.

Well to start with where in India or do you plan to travel all over? BTW Delhi in the summer mos. is best avoided unless you want to experience temps of 110F or more.

Then you can graduate to guidebooks, if you're still interested. This is hardly a novel endeavor.

Also, what is your age? This may determine the places , activities, etc, you want to see. What is the focus of your book?

every city and town has a story... every one contains more pictures than you can imagine...

Your interaction with "the people" will be more restricted than you think. Going in as a white woman traveling alone without knowing any of the local languages will be an instant barrier in my opinion and the idea of hiring a "cheap" body guard is scary too - you'll get what you pay for!

Without local connections, you won't get close to the real goings on of people and families. You'll just see the polite, social side or the poverty and odd things that stand out to tourists.
