I grew up in HK and I am always looking for work to take me back there. I went to Glenealy Junior school and South Island school. We lived in Conduit Road, Tai Hang Road, and Borrett Road. Life in HK is unbelievable; the experience is indescriable: I am certain the education in culture and people your children will learn is in valuable. I now have friends who live in most continents, are well adjusted, love to travel, and know more about the world and themselves just because they lived in HK.
My parents were lucky as they wroked for the HK governement-they got education and housing allowance as well as free medical care.
I am currently an high school teacher in NJ at a private school and the kids here with their coach/prada/vutton etc bags; their weekend trips to Florida/St. Thomas/Puetro Rico are so different from my school experience. I think a lot depends on the parents; sure there is peer pressure - as there is everywhere but having a strong family at home makes things easier.
HK is the best place to travel from, school trips to Cambodia/Vietnam really make one realize the priveleged lifestyle.
HK is expensive, crowded, hot, humid, and small. But HK is also one of the best places int he world to live - it is truly cosmopolitan and makes you relaize that you are a world citizen. I hope you move and your children and you have a wonderful experience!

dlai, i agree with hkdesi, HK is a fantastic environment for your children to grow up in. you should try everything to make sure your company takes care of you there.
i lived there for 12 years, attending Hong Kong International School. interesting that you mention how expensive these private schools are. while growing up attending these schools i never thought about the cost, but now i understand your concerns. my wife and i just returned from living in japan for 4 years and that was often the topic of conversation amongst many of us foreigners living abroad - how do you afford sending your kids to school?? but hopefully you're fortunate enough to work for a firm that will cover such costs etc.
living in asia, btwn hong kong and japan, were probably the most amazing years of my life! you'll love it!!!
hkdesi, interesting that you're working and living in Jersey, how'd you end up there? just figured if you attended the british schools in hk you would have attended university outside of the U.S.?
i definitely miss hk. while living in japan, we were able to visit a few times, ah, how so many things in hk changed over the years and yet stay the same!!! love it!!
