Movie 'The Lady'

I just watched, on a plane from Europe, the movie 'The Lady' about the life of Aung San Suu Kyi. I thought it was a great movie and wondering if anyone else has had the chance to see it yet?

I haven't seen it yet, but it is on my list. I'm glad to know that you enjoyed it.

I did see THE LADY a couple of months ago, and enjoyed it, but didn't think it was great. I wished that it had shown some of the complexities of this extraordinary woman, but didn't feel that Bresson succeeded in deepening our understanding of who she is. There are some beautiful moments, and images and Michelle Y's portrayal of Aung San Suu Kyi is impressive. She looks amazingly like her!

Agree with 520. Went to see it in Bangkok when I was there last February and it really was disappointing. All the characters were cardboard cutouts--no soul, no depth...and, most importantly, no insight into her mind--and what compelled her to do what she did. It just fell short on so many levels, as much as I wanted to love it.

Well I was wondering about that. You know when you see a movie on a plane and sometimes think it is so great and then see it again and go. "what was I thinking?" I may watch it again if I get the chance to give it another review.

I just watched the Lady, which I rented, and thought it was a really interesting movie. It gave me a greater understanding of the relationship between her and her husband, and why he was amenable to their separation for so many years. The add on talk with the director about the making of the movie was also informative as to how they actually got some of the footage for the movie.

It's on Netflix if you get DVDs in the mail.

It's also on Amazon instant video. We're going to watch it tonight...

It brought back memories of our wonderful trip to Myanmar, but the brutality of the general's thugs made me especially sad as I thought about the Burmese people we met, I kept wondering whether any of our guides or drivers or the people we met in the markets had a friend or family member who was a political prisoner.

Didn't actually see it until tonight. We thought it was very sad but a good film, none-the-less. A story that needed to be told...
