Monsane River Kwai Resort ?

while looking for a hotel in Kanchanaburi, I came accross the Monsane River Kwai Resort :
http://atsiam.com/hotels/kanchanabur...t_thailand.asp

it looks beautiful and the price is great, but I cant find any reviews on it online... maybe its a new hotel?

Has anyone seen it / been there? would love some feedback in regards to location vs. kanchanaburi town....

Thanks!

We stayed at the Felix River Kwai and loved it. Beautiful teak rooms (floors, ceiling, walls, built-in cabinets); marble baths; lovely bed coverings; and right on the River (we had the Deluxe River View room). Restaurant had excellent breakfast buffet. Easy walk to Bridge; it's actually adjacent to their property. Has light/sound show (be aware that only one night is in English). Massages were great! Excellent service. We hired a cab from BKK to River Kwai for only $30/one way, and he came back at the end of our stay and took us back to BKK for our flight to CM. Happy travel! We LOVE Thailand.

Also, we booked through Sawadee.com with no problems. Actually, we booked both of our Thailand trip hotels through them with no glitches. Have a good trip!

Thanks so much kywood...! I generally use atsiam.com (this is my 3rd time to Thailand) found their prices cheaper than others.
I think you got a lucky deal with the drive to Kwai, how much was that in baht?
Is the Felix hotel close to a populated area in the town/city? we'd like to be able to stroll around at night somewhere close...
Thanks loads - we love thailand too!!!

Ahhh! 3rd time! I'm jealous! I'll try atsiam.com next time. Thanks for the tip. The Felix is relatively close to Kanchanaburi in that it's @ 5-8 minute taxi ride. Sorry, I don't remember how much the cab ride from BKK to Felix was in baht. The Felix is in a quiet area and we liked that. Hope your travels are great!

The Monsane seems to be a long way from town. I would prefer to be walking distance from restaraunts, markets, shops etc but if you dont mind catching taxi's around it will probably be fine.

The Felix is supposed to be very nice. The only thing to consider is that it is on the opposite side of the river from the town so if you dont want to cross "the" bridge at night, you will still be catching taxi's around. It is very close to the river and the bridge but I am not sure if all rooms offer river views. That's what I liked about the guesthouse "raft" rooms, you really experience river life.

I found this site helpful...http://www.travelfish.org/accommodat...nchanaburi/all

Shanek - Thanks - Thats exactly what I am trying to figure out - i.e. where the hotel is in comparison to the "town", since we do want to walk around in the evening...
the raftrooms scared us a bit... no electricity...750bht boat ride to teh hotel etc.
Any other recommendations for something central?

FireDragonII, The River Kwai Hotel is in the middle of town. We didn't stay there but caught a tour from there and had a couple of adult beverages in their restaurant/lounge. The lounge and lobby area was clean, well-managed, nice but not luxury. The map at the bottom of the below webpage shows its location. We were there during the day, but I'm wondering how active and/or loud their Cowboy Bar might be at night. But maybe this would be closer to what you're looking for. Shows the rooms between 1100 - 1250 baht. Suites more.

No, not all rooms at the Felix have river views, but it was just a little more baht for the river view. The others are garden views and the gardens are very lovely.

Yes, you'd have to cross the river to get to town if you stayed at the Felix. And there are signs that say don't take the 'short cut' at night; we took the short cut during the day and it was fine. But the taxi ride was easy and quick. But I understand that if you want to be close to town area (as we did in CM), then you should go for that!

Which every way you go, have a really good time!!!

The "raft" rooms in the VN Guesthouse are actually connected to the bank by a short bridge. They have 24 hour electricity, running hot water and aircon. The toilets are western style without a flush. They are clean and the beds are comfortable.

VN is a little further from the bridge than some of the other guesthouses, but at most, it is a 5 minute walk to bars and restaraunts and 10 minutes to the night market.

kywood, thanks.... I appreciate the map etc. and checked out the hotel on sawadee.com
I see that that the River Kwai hotel is in an area called Saiyoke. Does that mean I can find any hotel within that area and be centrally located? please let me know...!

FireDragonII, I would check the maps. Kanchanaburi is spread out quite a ways. And I don't remember the names of others in that area. Oh, by the way, the spa adjacent to the River Kwai Hotel does an absolutely marvelous Thai massage!!

The River Kwai hotel is on the main highway that runs through town but it is not really a short walkable distance to the main tourist area. It will give you very easy access to transport though and you could probably walk to the night market in about 15 minutes I would guess. Anything further East of there would not be really convienient.
