Mongolia - Blue Silk Travel

We traveled to Mongolia with Blue Silk Travel last month on their two-week Naadam tour. Blue Silk is based in the US and co-owned by Jonathan Khoury, an American who spent two years in Mongolia in the Peace Corps, and Saranzaya, his Mongolian-born wife.

At first I almost didn’t choose the company because there are not a lot of online reviews, but I’m so glad I did. Every aspect of the trip was exceptional. Communications before the trip were responsive, thorough, and timely. Blue Silk definitely made sure we were prepared for the adventure with plenty of information. We were lucky to have Jonathan lead our trip – he has deep knowledge of and appreciation for Mongolia history and culture and was able to share it in entertaining and informative ways. He was super organized and calm, easily dealt with unexpected situations, and managed our group of 14 people beautifully. We really enjoyed getting to know him. We met one of Blue Silk’s other guides, and she seemed lovely too.

The trip itself was great, and all services/facilities exceeded our expectations, from the modern Blue Sky hotel in UB to the tourist ger camps in the countryside. Our drivers were excellent and safe, and friendly too. We feel lucky we found Blue Silk, and highly recommend them!

Hi DebraW,

Do you recommend Mongolia ? We are a family of 4 with two teenagers. Plus we are vegetarians.

We love adventure and the outdoors.

Thanks.

Hi and apologies for the late response. I do recommend Mongolia, especially for people who love adventure and the outdoors. It was like no place I have ever been. Amazing. There were several vegetarians on our trip and they did fine. In Ulan Baatar there are many vegetarian restaurants, and all of the ger camps (yurt tourist camps) offered vegetarian food. Don't expect fine dining, though!
