Money in China

Hello
I'm going to travel China for 6 months and I would like to know please, which is the best way to use my money? Is it by credit card? Should I take Travelers' Cheques? What amount of cash should I take with me when flying ?
If I use both Credit card and TC,how should I divide the total amount using both ?
Thank you very much !

eli22, have a look at the current thread "Credit card in Beijing". Before you travel, ensure that your ATM card will work in China, and at which banks. You can withdraw cash at the airport on arrival - say 500 yuan, 1000 at most. If you're paying for major items by credit card, this amount should be enough for your first few days (taxis, meals, entrance fees etc). If you're planning to visit more out-of-the-way places which may not have an ATM, make sure that you have enough cash for day-to-day expenses.
