I am assuming if my husband and I each take $10,000 we should not have to declare it. Is this a correct assumption?

The link says $5000.00 cash or $10000 in travelers checks.

Have you considered opening an account with the State bank of India. You can do that in the US (assuming you are in the US) and w/d from the many branches in India.

Thank-you. Yes we are in US. We will look into the State Bank of India. Who do we check with to see if each of us(my husband and I)can take $10,000 in Travelers Checks?
