Moderate Priced Hotels in Tokyo
 

My wife and I are looking for recommendations for hotels $200 -$250 range convenient to transportation in center Tokyo. We have no special needs except clean, some space since we'll be there about four days in May. Any experience with Hotel Sunroute Asakusa, Hotel Parkside, Hotel Century Southern Tower, or Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu? Thanks.

you can try the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku. We stayed there last spring and it is a large hotel with many amenities....see website:

The area around the hotel is a maze of great little eating restaurants and many large and small dept type stores near the Shinjuku Station(great connections to all of Tokyo) which is located right around the corner of the hotel...hope this helps

Keio Plaza is good. Also check out Tokyo ANA hotel,New Otani Hotel and the Mansions at Roppongi(use asiahotels.com).

Shinjuku New City hotel was good value too.
Quite close to the station with a 2 min free shuttle bus to station if you need it.

we were very happy at the Park Hotel, which was about $200 a night. Using the subway took some getting used to and the city is spread out so there doesn't seem to be one place to stay that makes it especially convenient, but the room, small but terrific, was great because we had a view of the Tokyo Tower & Mt. Fuji and the staff was delightful and helpful. Cafe in the lobby for great cappucino & croissant too.

Check out the Shiba Park in Tokyo. We stayed there and enjoyed it.It is moderately priced and within walking distance of Ginza etc and the staff were friendly ans helpful. Enjoy the trip!

You mention that you are paliing to visit in May. During which week? I ask because the first week of May is Golden Week and EVERY person in Japan has the week off. It's one of the biggest national holidays and has the crowds to prove it. I reccomend the later part of May since those who work in the service industry often take the week following Golden Week as their vacation to shake off the stresses of serving the entire nation for seven days.

I too caution against traveling around the Golden week time in Japan. Also sometimes you can get nicer hotels than the type you are looking at for about the same prices by going to hotel booking web sites or by looking at the websites of major hotel chains. I would also not worry too much about views of Mt. Fuji from Tokyo as this is usually only possible during late autumn, winter or early spring or after a good typhoon or brisk rain.
