Mistake Airfare PEK to Newark (and others)

On Flyertalk.com there is a current thread about mispriced Continental flights to Newark (among other cities). Must originate from Beijing.

I just priced PEK to EWR Oct 25 to Nov 12 and the total is $Cdn $444.10. K Fare.

For those of you who can use it - enjoy. I wish it was available the other direction!

I don't think it's necessarily a mistake fare. But a good fare, clearly.

Are return overseas fares normally that inexpensive from Beijing? All taxes etc. in?

Of course they're not usually this cheap. Otherwise people won't be this excited.

But my point is that it may not be a mistake fare. Rather, its deliberate.

Let me clarify a little for those who may be interested:

Dates: Outbound (i.e. PEK->US/Canada) 9/3-9/27, 10/2-12/23, 5/2-6/21

Stay: No minimum, 6-months maximum

Dates of week: Sun to Thursday for the Trans-Pacific flights

Change fee: US$100

Also, this is a very high "K" class fare, so upgrade surcharge is only $250, in additional to 25,000 miles, EACH WAY.

"K" class earns 100% EQM on CO, DL, NW and most partners. [Most cheaper CO fares only earn 50% EQM on partner programs.]

poutine is correct. It was a mistake fare, and now the fare was gone. Apparently, this "K" fare should be $1,310 each way. It was input as $131.

No idea what will happen to those who've booked.

Was it just a case of not reporting surcharges (as is so common in Asia)?

I've seen flights from Beijing and Shanghai reported at under US$500 for years, but once you add in departure taxes, fuel surcharge, etc, it ends back up in the $800-1000 range.

No, it was a mistake fare. Someone input $131 instead of $1,310. Simple as that.
