Mini-GtG in Honolulu

Last night we had a very nice Get ToGether in Honolulu.

Hawaiian Traveler, Mrs. HT, Carol Simpson and I met up at Ryan's Grill at Ward Center for "burgers and beer". ( Actually, HT had some sort of ginger drink, and I had a mojito, but you get the idea.)

We talked so much that the waiter had to come back about 5 times until we were ready to order food, and then kept talking for hours!

So nice to chat about our travels, families, strategies for shopping and airline tickets. We also compared notes on recent and future trips. I really look forward to some great trip reports in the next couple of months!

I was also struck by the interconnectivity of our lives via Fodors... Carol and I will be meeting up with Rhkkmk at the Boston GTG, Ht will be meeting with Bob in Shanghai, both Carol and HT will be at the Bangkok in November along with Bob and Pook, and I'll be seeing Pook in September.

Did you ever think your life could be so enriched by an internet travel board?

We were also struck by the fact that all of us there had been together at not only a number of HNL gtg's but also gtg's around the world in cities like Tokyo, Kona, LA, Boston, and Bangkok

Did you ever think your life could be so enriched by an internet travel board?

It got me an opportunity to have delightful conversation and dinner with three beautiful women all to myself.....it doesn't get much better than that

Aloha!

I hope that sometime in the future we can come see you guys in Honolulu for a GTG. In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you Lucy, in Boston and Pook in Bangkok, shortly thereafter. And yes, ours will be one of the forthcoming trip reports...on our trip to Bhutan.

And no, not in our wildest dreams would I have thought that our lives could be so enriched by an internet travel board...

HT, I am jealous that you had those three beautiful women all to yourself. Life sure is good...

Just catching up with this thread! I want to add my 100% agreement with what Lucy has said, about our lives being enriched by a travel forum! Thank you for saying what I'm sure we all feel in our hearts. And thank you to fodors for giving us this internet place to share our experiences.

Last night was just delightful! Kathie, Craig, Ken, Pook, Bob, you all would have enjoyed it, I'm sure. When we settle on a time for next year (hopefully in September again) you should try to join us!!! The more the merrier!

Lucy, I want you to teach me some Hawaiian words so I can decipher what Ken is sometimes talking about. I don't know what it means, but I'm also laughing!!!

Carol, In Hawaii as you know we speak not only English and Hawaiian but just about all the Asian cultures languages in the Pacific region with a lot of Pacific Island(Samoa, Tahiti, etc)languages thrown in.

So with that in mind on this thread....mimi is Japanese slang for ears so originally Ken is saying his "ears were ringing" to coin and English phrase and I told him his ears were itai which is a Japanese word for painful. L

So, in doing further reasearch, I found out that
Mimi means:

urine in Hawaiian
Ear in Japanese
and breast in Pitjantjatjara

and so you don't have to sneak over to wikipedia, Pitjantjatjara are aboriginal people of Western Australia...

Okole means rear end or your butt in Hawaiian and niele as Hanuman has deciphered means curious in Hawaiian.
