Metastasizing cancer?

Katie:

It is so sad to log on and see that all "new topics" are rubbish from one spammer, Xu Zhongying. I hope that your team can figure out a way to control this regrettable use of screen real estate.

I started a new post because it seems that reporting individual spam posts isn't a sufficient way of expressing concern.

Thanks.

Mary, I've been reporting lots of spam as well. It seems like there is so much more than usual. Perhaps this is the price we pay for the new site being indexed by google.

Marya
I soooo agree. I saw all that rubbish when I logged on earlier this morning. It angered me that I had to scroll waaaaay down the page to get my updates on things happening in Bangkok (since I will be there in a week). I hope Katie sees this, and FAST.
Carol

Hi Marya-- I apologize for the delay. We detest spammers as much as you do and are investigating alternatives for the displaying threads on the main page to discourage them. We've tried to make the site more welcoming to first time posters--but they are one group of first time posters that we're not keen to encourage!

It is a world wide web you are playing in Fodors editors. You need a 24 hr editing format. The new spam is happening when everyone is out of the office

Hi hawaiiantraveler--you're completely correct. The "offensive flag" post was the first step--the function needs to be optimized so that it is automatic (on top of us also beefing up moderation).
