Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, India people!

Happy Holiday Season to the India Forum Fodies Homies!!

We spent Christmas two yrs ago in Karnataka-- great trip. Christmas Eve was spent a small, basic hotel which went all-out for Christmas, including the presence very Indian-looking Santa, and a buffet of local foods.

I have not participate much on the India Forum but I do read about it a lot.

Happy Holiday Season to you too CaliNurse and "Sawasdee Pe Mai" to all Fodorites from Thailand!

Thanks! It reminds me of a green and red sari I bought 20+ years ago. It's too bright to wear in India, but looks great at Christmas here in the US.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Season's Greetings to everyone!

My hotel in Trivandrum doesn't have a Santa (thank goodness, I saw some absolutely enormous ones outside country churches yesterday), but it does have two Christmas trees, and extra options including Christmas cake on the buffet last night - and everyone got a serving of (good) fruit cake. But I was a little puzzled by all the blue and white balloons in the dining room!

Having been to India twice, I guess we qualify for a "Seasons Greetings". Merry Christmas to all!

dgunbug Dec 25th, 2010 03:34 PM

Merry Christmas to all. We just booked our India trip for next year - what a great present for my DH & me!!!

CaliNurse Dec 25th, 2010 05:26 PM

Thursdaysd--SInce blue and white are the colors of Israel...maybe they were celebrating Chanukah, along with Christmas (-: ??

Dgunbug-What a fantastic gift to yourselves!!

I'm a relative newbie to the India forum (but not to Fodors). I have learned much from you all. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences, and for sharing in the spirit of the day!!

i plan to book my 2011 trip in the next week or so....and best wishes to all of you for a merry xmas ending in less than 3 hours and a happy new year

dgunbug Dec 26th, 2010 05:22 AM

Unfortunately, I had to return my "Christmas" gift as we are needed here in October for babysitting duties. I'm saddened, but hope to get a new ticket leaving in November.

CaliNurse Dec 26th, 2010 12:28 PM

Dgunbug, if it is for grandchildren--well...THEY are the biggest joy!!

Good luck getting the November tickets!! Let us know what happens. And in many parts, the weather in NOvember will be better.

althom1122 Dec 27th, 2010 06:03 PM

I'm now an India person! Yay - what an awesome thing to be.

CaliNurse Dec 27th, 2010 09:40 PM

Althom, you confirm what i often say to the skeptics: it may be your first trip to India, but it wont be your last!

dgunbug Dec 28th, 2010 05:00 AM

Cali - you are right...grandchildren are a joy, but the Gods are not looking favorably on me getting to India. My youngest son announced last night that he and his fiance (just engaged this week) will likely get married in December 2011. There goes our plans for November/December (unless the wedding is late December).

So, the question now is...If we cannot travel in Nov/Dec, is it better to travel to India in mid September/October or January?

Craig Dec 28th, 2010 05:47 AM

The weather will be generally cooler and drier in January in most parts of India.

Rinda1 Dec 30th, 2010 09:08 AM

CaliNurse Dec 30th, 2010 12:43 PM
