Mekong Express from Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh

Hi. I am traveling from Ho chi Minh city to Phnom Penh, and am trying to decide whether to fly or to take the Mekong Express. My friends that are traveling with me are worried about the border crossing - do people get hassled there? If anyone has taken the bus and can talk about it I'm definitely interested in your information. Is the bus worth doing?

Thanks!

It's easy. You won't get hassled. The Mekong Express representative will handle things for the passengers. Takes approx. 5 hours and is significantly less expensive than flying.

It's even better by water.

So crossing the border won't be a problem at all? This is a huge source of concern for my one friend. Has anyone had problems with their passports and visas crossing at this border vs. entering through the airport?

I crossed from Vietnam to Cambodia by water late in 2002, with no problems. But I don't think you can get a visa at the border, you need to get it ahead of time. Does your friend have particular concerns because of her nationality?

What about from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh? I can find more information from Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh but not Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh. We already have a Vietnam visa.

hi,
it is even easier from phnompenh into vietnam via chau doc (water) especially you have vietnam visa. just go and have your passport stamp then pass.
have a good trip

An alternative to the boat to chau doc and then onward to Saigon is the Mekong Express Bus. It takes around 6 hours including an hour at the border to get through customs. The bus is large, quite comfortable and is air conditioned. Leaves at 6:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and cost $12. Tickets can be purchased at their office on Sisowath Quay and they will pick you up at your hotel to take you to the bus station.

Hi,

Does anybody have a contact in Ho Chi Minh for booking the Mekong Express Bus from Ho Chi Minh going to Phnom Phen?

We are arriving into Ho Chi Minh and want to travel to Cambodia a day and a half later so would like to book the bus before we leave Australia.

I cannot find an email, phone or address to book through however. I have tried a few travel agaents and out hotel in HM but had no success.

Any assistance would be appreciated
