Megurogajoen - Tokyo

What is "Tokyo Love Cruising?"
|
Aha !!! Found this in English.
http://www.megurogajoen.co.jp/english/ Kim, great find. Very fascinating interactive website. You can enter the rooms & take a good peek. Thanks for sharing. Intersting place to explore. It's about an hour from our home. |
eksc,
TKY Love Cruising must be their Japanese & Western wedding plan programs promo name. You know how it is here- they do come up with the most interesting names for different things. |
bmttokyo...you don't happen to know anything about this place besides what is on the website? They have another hotel in Fukuoka, and a bunch of wedding venues. They have a great rate plan for their 80th anniversary, and I'm considering a night here for when family visits...but I'm not sure about the place and their wedding focus.
|
Sorry Kim. This looks like a gorgeous place . Talk about Japonesque. A surely interesting destination. When is family coming in? I might try to drop by & check out for you as time permits. We have Basketball Tournaments to finish now with the kids.
Let me know your timing. |
They are coming in September. I'd love it if you had time to go over there and have a look when you have time. Thanks!
|
Kim, could you Pm me in TA around late March to remind me please. Be glad to do that for you as time permits but will definitely need a gentle(!) reminder.
Looking forward to checking out that place, really ! |
Sure...thanks!

9 PM
Kim, just got home but glad to say that I made it to Meguro gajoen today. I did get lost though but that's another story for later. Will tell you more about it in about a day or 2 since I have to bake 4 dozen muffins/cookies/ cupcakes for a meeting KT is hosting tomorrow. Got a lot of brochures & was quite impressed by this place. It looks like a museum in some areas. Photos on the web are as you see it in person. Even taken to a Japanese style room so I could personally inspect it. Let me know in TA how I could mail you all these brochures that I have for you. ekscrunchy, this is a serious wedding place complete with a huge hall for wedding planning. I saw at least 2 brides & I got there at 5 PM already, Nowhere in the hotel did i see any TKY Love Cruising Ads though, it might be a program that has now expired. Really gotta go. Will report back later. |
Meguro Gajoen- (MG)
We have a guest from the Silicon Valley & just finished a Guided Free Tour to the Meiji Shrine courtesy of one of KT's students who is a Volunteer Tour Guide with Tokyo City Guide Club. <http://5.pro.tok2.com/~tcgc/english/> Tour was about an hour & a half with only the 3 of us in our party. Had a great time learning a lot of new things from the tour & am not sure if I enjoyed this or the People Watching at the corner of the Temple with the Young People & their different themed costumes. On our way back home, decided I should just pass by MG since it was just 2 stops away from Ikebukuro where KT was planning on taking our friend to BIK KAMERA, a chain of electronic stores where at least 6 of their branches are about a block or a half block from each other !!! Got off at Meguro & as always tried to look for the Station Master to ask for directions of my unknown destination. I knew something was wrong as soon as I asked him for the West Exit & he said there was only one exit at this station. I then proceeded to ask him if he knew of MG & he looked in his detailed city map. He said it was 30 minutes by bus, I said it should only be 3 minutes on foot. I decide to go find the Koban to ask the Police where MG was. The duo look at their map after I hand them the address & they tell me that I was in MEJIRO & not MEGURO. I got totally confused with the JIRO/GURO . Back on the train I went & back tracked a few more stations from Harajuku where we got on . Lesson of the day : I will never make the Mejiro/Meguro mistake again !!! Once I find the West exit in Meguro, MG is not quite a 3 minute walk from the station. It's more of a 3 minute down ward trek to the hotel - the hill is quite steep & depending on how well MIL is, there are cabs you can take from the station. MG is on a very quiet cul de sac towards the left of the street. The hotel & the majority of the property itself is a cresent shaped building maybe 8 stories high) set to the right of the main hall. The lobby is not huge but it leads to the very long, winding gallery featuring beautiful wooden murals of geisha & their maiko from the Edo Period. I walk past a large room where I found at least a dozen if not more couples some with their parents talking with wedding planners & perusing their books. There is also a wedding gown studio & a gift shop where you can shop for the Thank you gifts of your guests. On to the lest of the hall against the backdrop of a garden is a bevy of Travel agents ready to assist the couples to take them off to their Honeymoon destinations. On towards the Big Gate of Invitation where you go past several restaurants, the Japanese one is set in a thatched roof- just like the photos show. I have to say that the pictures on the website of the rest of the place is spot on. I did not get to go to the Banquet Hall since it was cordoned off. The Japanese website has a whole lot more info vs the English site as I am sure you have already seen. I locate the hotel reception are & requested to see a Washitsu & was escorted to the 6th Floor & one on the end of the hall. It was 80 sq meters including the Japanese Bath with sauna ensuite. The ofuro is made of hinoki & the floor is the special no slip/ very pourous rock floor from a very special quarry. The bath. The toiletries were all full sized bottles & not the usual foil packets I find in our hotels. If i am not mistaken, the big room with the kotatsu was at least 10-12 mats & there was a smaller 6-8 mat room with a shoji sliding door in between. I was told there was a Flat Screen somewhere in the room but did not see it. They just did a remodel of the room 2 years ago & the tatami was new- it was not your usual tatami though- it almost looked like plastic . This room is set up for a max of 4 people. I asked to look into the oshi ire & there were 4 futon set ups there. Later learned that there are 2 rooms that are 120 sq m. Those rooms can take up to 6 people. I was not offered to see the Yo shitsu although he pointed out that they were on the opposite side of the hallway. There is only one 120 sq meter Western Style room. They said the 120 sq meter room will cost you 2 man over the quoted prices of the plan. I called again today to clarify a few more items & they were very gracious in taking care of them. Most if not all of the info is in the Japanese website but I will be more than happy to send the brochures I got for you. Just let me know what you want me to do. I am not sure if I got your questions answered. Let me know if I can address any more of your queries. |
Wow nice looking place! Did you get an idea of the price for the Japanese rooms?
|
Thank you so much! I'd love it if you could send any papers/brochures to us.

I'm confused ! |
I forgot to include this- they now are running a February Hokkaido Fair at their Club Lounge Restaurant- all you can eat crab - 3 kinds- taraba gani- suwai gani (sorry I don't know the english equivalent of these crabs but one of them looked like our Alaskan king ) & ke gani (the hairy kind) for Y6000. It looked really good !!!
|
キーフ is our last name in katakana, which is how the postman knows us best...he has trouble with English names and often gives our mail to other foreigners and their mail to us.
|
Got it !
|
It's on it's way.........
|
Kim,
Did you get the packet? Let me know. |
Yes, thank you very much. I meant to post something back to you...but then read you were leaving today? I'll wait till you get back.
|
3 hours before we leave for the airport & I am still writing on Fodor's. This could be a dangerous habit. Actually, this IS a dangerous habit !!!
Go ahead & post about MG as you can. I am curious what you think. You know I'll be checking in while on the road. Thanks for all your tips on CM. I might even get to say hello to the Japanese fellow with the real nice toilet !!! |
I think MG looks nice...but, the wedding focus puts me off a bit. We decided today to stay at the Peninsula Tokyo for 2 nights with MIL and SIL. Virtuoso has better rates and good benefits that put it into our budget.
When I said post...I meant post like send you in the mail something :) Watch your mailbox when you get home...how long are you gone for? |
OH- that kind of posting.
We'll be back March 9th- Luke turns 14 then. Time really flies !!! Glad I did the MG research for you anyway, I would never have gotten to see it otherwise. I'll be checking my post box & thanks in advance. Just glad I am able to leave this time of year since the winter wait can get to me quite a bit. Normally , I get to leave early Feb when the cold really hits me. However, with this weather, this really feels like Spring has come . Talk to you soon........... |
