Medical Precautions for India and Nepal?
 

I am planning on taking a 2 week organized tour of India and Nepal. I will be going to New Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Khajuraho, Varanasi and Kathmandu. I will be eating at and sleeping in first class hotels the entire trip. Do I still need to take any medical precautions like shots or pills for the trip? <BR>Thanks for your input!

Phil, <BR>Yes, I still think you would be prudent to get the shots. Though you might be staying and eating in "safe" places, don't forget the fact that you'll also <BR>be doing a lot of travelling and sight-seeing. <BR> <BR>-Manju <BR>P.S: You can't get the Taj Mahal to your first class hotel.. :)

Phil, <BR>I would recommend you get the necessary shots. It's not a big deal, costs about $200 and you'll have no worries. I wouldn't bother with the malaria series or Hep A unless you'll be trekking and such. I skipped those and I was trekking and had no issues. Have fun!

Definitely get Hep A! The sickest I ever got in India was from room service at a five-star hotel in Bombay so it can happen anywhere. I think Hep A is a "must" for travel anywhere in Asia. Also make certain that your tetanus is up to date. I've never bothered with malaria medicine, but it all depends on how remote you'll be, what time of year it is, etc.

You should definately get the hepatitus shots and the malaria shots. I've been there a few times and I got those shots each time. It's better to be safe then sorry. About food, I never had any problems with the food there, and i never had diarrhea or anything like that. Make sure you try out the cusine. If you get a chance to eat the street vendor's food, go for it. It's great and safe 98% of the time.
