mastercard in bangkok

Hello everyone

My bank in the Uk has just told me that it is changing my credit card from a Visa to a Mastercard. I have always used my Visa in bangkok easily. I use it for a few withdrawals and to pay for big purchases. Can anybody tell me if Mastercard is as easy to use / widely accepted? Or should I change my Credit Card provider to one that uses Visa?

Hope somebody can help.

Debbie

Where they take visa they take mastercard. More than Amex and Diners

Thanks for replying. I'll stick with the Mastercard then. I love Fodors - so many really helpful people!! Thanks again!

some vendors will require you to pay a 3-5% charge when you use your card....this is common in thailand....not hotels for restaurants however...

I was never charged extra using my MC or Visa in Thailand nor an added fee.The bank has in the US charges us 1.5-2% on conversion.

BTW I read in a magazine here that credit card fraud is getting more common in Thailand. E.g. cloning in restaurants. No names.

I read in another travel forum that a company noticed 'unusual' spending because the traveller was in Thailand. I.e. they stopped her card cos they thought something strange was going on. So have the credit card number handy in case the card companies are being overly vigilant. Or warn them in advance.

It is also same convenience to use both VISA and Mastercard. I saw a lot of their logo in restaurant especially Mastercard.
