massages in bangkok
i have heard that you can get outstanding massages in bangkok. does anyone have any recommendations on where to get a great massage and how much it should cost?

At Wat Po near the Grand Palace, they have the original school of Thai Massage where you can get 1/2-hr or 1-hr massage for about $3 or $6.
Besides that, every hotel has the service available and prices will vary widely. The top hotels will charge alot, while less hotels less. Yet when we were in Phuket, at a 5* hotel, our massages only cost about $7.
So use these prices as a guideline.

Best massage of my life was at the Oriental Spa. The prices are as follows:

-Stress Recovery Back & Shoulder massage 30 mins US$35
-Oriental Foot Massage 30 mins US$35
-Swedish Massage 60 mins US$60, 90 mins US$85
-Jet Lag Massage 60 mins US$60, 90 mins US$85
-Essential Oil Massage 60 mins US$60, 90 mins US$85
-Oriental Massage 60 mins US$60, 90 mins US$85
-Lymphatic Detoxification Massage (Only) 60 mins US$60
Contact the hotel directly for the price list and various packages available.
I also went to a beautiful smaller, locally owned place called "divana spa" and it cost about $45 for 100 minutes. I think it's a wonderful value when compared to the hotel spas. www.divanaspa.com
I would alo give banyan tree a try. their prices are listed on their website.

I had a 1-hour Thai foot massage at Wat Pho after a very nasty sprained ankle. Sidewalks in BKK tend to be uneven! Anyway, at home my doc would have given me crutches and ordered me to elevate the ankle and stay off of it. At Wat Pho, they massaged (it hurt like h###) and an hour later I could have danced out the door!!! No more pain. No more hobbling around!!! It was back to the sight seeing and fun of BKK. I would go back to Wat Pho!!

as par usual I will delve into bangkoks darker yet totaly exepted sie.
most of your 7 stoy mega massag parlors are on Ratchadapisek. rd. pronounced rachada.. these are the places you see on TV where you pick a lady from the other side of a windo and thay bathe and give you a massage. when it's over it's all up too you on what happens next the prices are 2000 baht plus..
i've personly have yet too try one out. I just know the prices becous yesterday on the BBC they had a report on the king of massage parlors running for government, and he explained the busness too the reporter.

In case u do not want to go somewhere very pricey 2 good options. Thai massage. Spotlessly clean. Around 350 baht for an hour. One is Ruen Nuad in SIlom opp BNH (hospital). Other is on the 4th floor of Central Chidlom Tower the same building which houses the Central Dept store. Very conv from chitlom station.

There are two sorts of massgae in Thailand. The one called Thai massage is what most of you are seeking and what most posters have advised you about.
The one that Orgy Seven refers to is known as Ancient massage, and there are many opportunities for exploring this side of things in the Sukhumvit Road area. As usual, the price you have been given is the American tourist price and is waaaay too high. 800 to 1000 baht for a two-hour service is more like it unless you have a very special request.

Just back from Bkk. had a massage almost every day. Best value is calling Wat Pho school of massage and arranging for a massage in your hotel room. It only costa a little more than at Wat pho and you can control the temperature. 700 Baht for 90 minutes. Slightly better massage through hotel, Royal Orchid, but at three times the cost, B2100. Popped into a couple of massage locations near the hotel. Decent, but not as good as Wat Pho. Perfect antidote to long flight.
