Marriott or Hyatt in Hua Hin?
 

I will be using Marriott Rewards or Hyatt Goldpassport points to stay in Hua Hin. (I know there are other hotels there perhaps more luxurious but I need to use the points in Hua Hin to afford the trip.) The only drawback I see about the Hyatt is it seems to be too far from town. Does anyone know how long a walk it would be to town from the Hyatt? The Marriott seems more conveniently located, but I know that the Hyatt is new and they are generally excellent hotels.

No, you don't want to walk to town from the Hyatt. But you can walk to the Chiva-Som! Personally, I'm not especially impressed with the town of Hua Hin, but then I don't like to spend my "beach time" in town. Thanks Kathie, I found your December post. By the way, the only reason I wanted to know how far it was to Hua Hin town was to find places to eat and to buy beer and snacks. Do you know if there are any restaurants (other than Hyatt restaurants) and convenience/grocery type stores near the Hyatt so we wouldn't actually need to go all the way into town?

Hyatt:At the corner of the main road near the Hyatt is a small conveniene/snack place. It is about 5-6 minutes by tuk-tuk, perhaps 2.5-3kms at most. Marriott you can easily walk.

we stayed at the marriott for 6 days in november...we liked it very much...it is smaller and more intimate than the hyatt...hyatt is very grand looking...we went and checkded it out as we did to most of the major hotels in hua hin and cha am...we think the marriott is the best all around...the pool area, while smaller is just the right balance of sun and shade...the walk to the room is done in a minute rather than 5 at the hyatt....food very good at marriott (chief chef is from texas)..<BR>marriott is 5-10 minute walk to town, with local 7-11 type shops very close...hyatt is way out and not walkable..<BR>we also found hua hin to be just average as a town..market not interesting--but after bangkok everything in the world is downhill..<BR><BR>don't miss the La Mer Restaurant, south of both the hyatt and the marriott up on the hill---take a cab--go at nite first and in the day another time---fabulous thai inspired sea food---reasonable and delicious--cab ride 5 minutes from hyatt or 10-15 minutes from marriott or town..<BR>if marriott has a wine/dinner when you are there do it---we did an italien evening with an italien winery from verona and the food and the wine were great..small group of about 30 of us<BR><BR>DO THE MARRIOTT--also the widest and best stretch of the beach..less formal

I was furious at our agent for ever suggesting Hua Hin. The beach is rubbish and there is absolutely nothing to do. We paid about 40 pounds for 2 of us to go on a trip to a weaterfall which turned out to be a stream and some rocks. Waste of time, sorry if that disagrees with other's point of view but as a holiday place Hua Hin xxxxx!

charlie boy---there is no &quot;action&quot; at hua hin if that is what you mean...but for a middle aged couple, us, it is the perfect type place....the 4* hotels are great and the food is also good and the beach was very nice...i live on the east coast and have spent time at the beach for over a half century and i found that beach to be very adequate and clean as well....rubbish????.. don't understand???<BR>i'll take hua hin in the winter and nantucket in the summer any day and leave it at that...<BR>charlie-boy---join your friends at phuket and enjoy it---see you in patpong back in bkk

What makes you pressume Bob that because we considored Hua Hin to be boring that we are youngsters? We are both in our mid 50's and I stick to my claim that there is simply 'nothing to do'. The tour to the Pala watarfall was some kind of joke! Did you see it, it is a stream with some rocks. We wanted a boat trip but none existed. Restaurants were Italian and German mostly. Unless you wanted a suit made shopping was nothing. The night market could not be compared to Chiang Mai or markets elsewhere. If I just need a quiet beach to laze on I can find better in the Canary Islands or Spain. We go to Thailand for an interesting holiday. Yes, next time we will go back to Phuket, without a shadow of a doubt, and will enjoy a couple of beers at friendly bars and actaully enjoy ourselves.
