This Marriott has a good rate. I have made a reservation for three adults ( which is stated on my reservation confirmation). In the rate rules( which I have copied) noting is said about a third person accommodation fee.

I have a total. It says xxxx amount. room only Persons : 3

Dilemma. If I call the reservation 800 number and ask for BREAKFAST/high speed internet in this same one bedroom suite, it does mention the 1,000 baht extra person fee in the "rate rules". An 800 THB fee is also mentioned as accommodation fee on OTHER rooms when a third person is entered, but NOT on the rate I have. (come back to BKK 20% discount)

So, is it safe for me to believe that I will NOT be charged any extra person fee because MY reservation confirmation does not expressly say so in the rate rules?

The reservation 800 number has decided there is a mistake on the website that is not calculating nor advertising an extra person fee at some of the promotions and has made a note.

I decided to keep my internet reservation so the 800 number is not involved. This all came up as I called them to ask a few questions about the room and price of breakfast if one day you bought it separately.

If I have to pay the extra person fee, this hotel may be out of the question. But I don't want to find out at the check-in desk.

i have sent an email to customer service only asking if there is a sofa bed in the living room, and if so, to cancel the rollaway request.( which wasn't guaranteed anyway).

You should be fine with a written reservation that shows 3 persons at a stated fee. How ever call the 800 number, get an email adress for the hotel, and by email confirm 3 people at your price so there are no surprises. It is a very nice property , in a fabulous neighborhood. Lots of places to eat within a 2-3 min walk. The breakfast is a small but nice buffet. It has a great covered pool, but the sides are open and the views are nice from up there.

i am waiting for them to send me the email. The customer service has called the hotel and there iS a sofa bed in the living room.

As soon as I am given the email I will reconfirm my reservation.

Actually, I was not making the exchange correctly because even if it were 800 TBH more it's not the end of the world.

I know you said you really liked this neighborhood. I hope the skytrain is convenient.. or with three people should we just take taxis most places?

we prefer the taxi route which the doorman will flag down for you, but the skytrain is a few blocks away---hot walk.

i have the mayfair booked again for our fall, 2012 visit.. another option about the same price is the marriott sukhumvit park serviced apartments... it is on soi 24, sukhumvit. they have a tuk tuk which will drive you to the skytrain at emporium and pick you up if you call them.. it is only about 2 years old... good restaurant in house too.

the marriott courtyard is well located as well and not far from the mayfair... it is only a couple of years old and sort of in back of the 4 seasons. great location with the skytrain right there as well.

800-1000 B is less than $30. 30 B=$1.

As I remember, the skytrain was a good 15 minute walk from the Marriott Mayfair. I like to use the Skytrain - no waiting in traffic, but it's a longer walk than I'd like from the Mayfair.

i've stayed at this property before. i found the lobby to be plain, almost spartan. however, the room was very nice, overlooking a construction site next door.

the walk to the skytrain, for me, was a little less than ten minutes. its about the same distance to lumpini park.

Well, we got lost on our way to the Marriott Mayfair, so I may be remembering the amount of time it took to find it from the Skytrain rather than how long it took to get back. lol.

haha ha. The other Marriott apartments are fairly new and the tuk tuk to the station does seem like a perk in the heat if we do take the Skytrain. All the hotels I am looking at now are more or less in the same price range, with or without breakfast/internet. Just finalizing ideas here!

.."the room was overlooking a construction site".. doesn't sound too nice to me.

the lobby at mayfair is very elaborate and full of marble and water..

The apartments are great at the M Mayfair, and I would return again. I don't recall the walk to the train being so bad, and like everyone says there are lots of restaurants closeby. One thing I did not like so much was that the room rate does not give the same amount of Marriott Rewards points as they do for hotels, and, when you are a point junkie like I am that's a negative. I think it was only about 1/3 of the usual points.
Ha ha, I really liked the uniformed guard at the door who saluted each time we came in!!! (perhaps he knew dh was a retired Naval Officer!)
Bob did you eat at the Itallian Restaurant that overlooks the street? it looked nice but we didn't eat there.

bob, i've stayed at both. and yes, the mayfair did have marble, but, to me, it just didn't have the pazzaaazs. however, all in all, a nice property.

another big decision. we now have a cancelable reservation at the Peninsula that has rooms for 3,300thb?! This sounds amazing. With the extra person charge, it is still at 5,000/night plus taxes. Very tempting.

Comments? This one looks great to me, but of course we do not have an apartment with 1.5 bathrooms, kitchen washer, etc... but perhaps this luxurious hotel and river location will make up for that.

Sounds like from your recent 'Bangkok fixes' post, the Peninsula could very well be your choice; if so, let me be one of the first to congratulate you on a rather wise decision. Since she first spread her wings back in the late nineties, I have so loved that property for meetings and leisure; such great staff and friends.

I do have rather recent experience with her: early last month, for a brief 'King's celebration' down by the river. Hotel as fine as ever, and it had been more than a few months since last visit; Valentine's Day, '11 with the loved one, if memory serves correct. (Of late, have been staying at the BKK St. Regis for work.)

For the King's fete, we were given a most attractive rate, along with an upgrade to a certain cherished suite on floor __ we've savoured before. (Deepest apologies for not revealing our specific suite/room floors and names. Took a few business/leisure stays to nail down our special Pen lodgings.)

Next planned Peninsula visit for us will be next month, Valentine's Day. (Love traditions.)

i just found a good buy -- 4000 B-- on the plaza anthanee for the fall...

also marriott mayfair for the fall at under 3000 b.

The Peninsula also offered me a late check-out til 6 pm on our return trip for 1,600THB more than the 3,300. so we may be staying there on our last night ( one night before flight). I have been looking at the many 24 hr rates ( which would be a tad better for us) hotels offer, even not at the airport. We get in late one night ( 10 pm) then fly out at a few minutes after midnight the next night.
