Map & Guide for BKK

Would love recommendations for a good map for Bangkok. Also would like to have a guide for a day or 2. I've read about Tong, but not sure how to contact him/her. Any other suggestions for guides? How far in advance do u need to arrange for a guide? We'll be in BKK the beginning of January. Thanks

You want to buy the Nancy Chandler map of Bangkok. Much more than a map, it has recommendations for all kinds of things. It will orient you to the city and where things are located in relation to each other. Note that is is NOT to scale. You can buy the Nancy CHandler map in bangkok at Hotels and bookstores, but you may well want it ahead of time so you can study it a bit. It's available at travel bookstores and at Amazon.

Kathie is absolutely correct. It is invaluable. I found that along with the latest edition, likely 2011, of Fodor's, and you are all set.

I highly recommend getting the map in advance so you can plan out your days and how to maximize your time. We used Tong (female) and loved our day with her. There's plenty of information on Tong in this forum.

We called Tong and she sent us Tamee who was very good. I think all her guides are well screened. Check Trip Advisor. We called a few days ahead from outside Bangkok (when we knew our schedule) and she did her best to accomodate us.

the only issue i know of with nancy chandler's map is that it is not to scale, which when you understand that you are fine...
