Manicures in Thailand or Vietnam: Sanitation issues??

For those who have had mani/pedicures in Vietnam or Bangkok: Here is the US I have read about non-sterilized equipment causing fungal nail infections. Using some precautions in Asia, should I confine any nail treatments to spas in larger hotels? Has anyone had any negative results from manicures in SE Asia? (No laughing at this post, please!!)

Most of the manicure and pedicure in Thailand are done at hair salon and not spas. My wife and daughter have regular, once a week, manicure and pedicure and never have any problem. Make sure you go to a clean or relatively upscale place and inspect the "kit" for proper sterilization.

I think you'll enjoy it in Bangkok!

I've had manicures often but stick to the upscale hotels to do them. More expensive than other places but still a lot less than at home and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Don't worry, I'm not laughing!

I've had pedicures in many places in Thailand, most recently at the salon at the ROS. I do always watch to see their cleaning procedures. I've never had a mishap with any pedicure in SE Asia, but I do choose places carefully.
