Mandarin Oriental or Four Seasons?

I need help in deciding between the two in Chiang Mai. Please share your experiences.

Thank you!

The Mandarin is closer to the city and thus more convenient but to my mind it is totally over the top -- feels like being in Disneyland. Definitely not for me. 4 Seasons is much lovelier I think but it is farther away. Personally, I wouldn't stay at either of them unless all you want is a resort experience.

Thanks for your response. After doing more research, I think I would prefer to be in the Golden Triangle area. If I am more interested in local villages and wildlife, would that be wise?

What is your impression of Anantara?

Shari, there are dozens of thorough reviews of the Anantara on this board. Just type Anantara Golden Triangle in the search box.

I loved the Anantara!

Thanks for your help!

Also, please note that I am well aware that Thailand is not Africa.

I haven't stayed at Anantara but will be on my next trip. It gets wonderful reviews and certainly looks more appealing than the Mandarin (which you couldn't pay me to stay at). It also has elephants right there and is a good base if you are interested in hilltribe culture -- don't miss Doi Mae Salong and Doi Tung (the Queen Mother's project and gardens).
