Maluku and West Papua over Christmas

Hi,
I am planning to travel to Indonesia over Christmas. I did some research, I found somehow contradicting information as some say that this is the dry season in the East of the country (Maluku Islands and West Papua), in others cases information was not very clear.

Is this a good time to visit that part of Indonesia, or should I move the trip to later in the spring?

Also, I was hoping I could fly there directly from e.g. Singapore or Bangkok, maybe with a stop in Bali or some other island in central Indonesia, but I can't find any obvious combination of flights, any help is really appreciated.
Thanks,
Alessandro

We have just come back from Indonesia. We also wanted to visit West Papua but were told on the ground that it is currently not recommended due to safety and security concerns.

Thanks dk2022 . Added to the uncetainty about the weather over Christmas, we have decided to change destination.
