Malaysia or Philipines May or end of June

I will be traveling to Java, Bali, Komodo Island, and Malaysian Borneo May 22-June 22. I am thinking about adding the Philipines or Malaysia to this trip, either directly before or after. An extension of 1-2 weeks (possibly 3) would work well.

I will be traveling alone so safety is a concern. I enjoy both cultural and natural activities (snorkeling, wildlife viewing, flora, etc.). I am also concerned about climactic conditions. Which country would have the best weather conditions at this time of the year?

I look forward to your suggestions! I need to make a decision fairly soon.

For weather issues, I use www.weatherbase.com You will have to check each specific location you are considering.

Logistically, Malaysia makes more sense than the Philippines. You don't say where you re going in Malaysian Borneo, but let me recommend some time in Sarawak. We very much enjoyed our time in Kuching. In terms of Peninsular Malaysia, my favorite area is Georgetown, Penang. I'm not a fan of Kuala Lumpur.

I agree with Kathie. Malaysia makes more sense. East coat Malaysia would have good weather at that time of year. Great diving and snorkelling on the Perhentian islands. From there it is possible to get buses to Taman Negara and Belum National Parks for wildlife and nature. Further west places like Penang, nice like they undoubtedly are, will be moving into their rainy season so it won't be the best time.

June in the Philipines is typhoon season. Personally, I didn't take to the place and left after a few days, something that rarely, if ever happens!

I think you could do a lot worse than spending the additional time in Malaysian Borneo. Both Sarawak and Sabah have a tremendous amount going for them and are quite different. Mt Kinabalu great for nature ( even if you don't climb the mountain) and is easily accessed. Mulu is a bit harder to access but very rewarding . Less visited and much harder to get to are the Kelabit Highlands, great for trekking and nature. Lots of choices!

With the global warming taking its toll on all of us, I don't think June will still be rainy or typhoon prone season.

It will be hot in the Philippines during those times so a beach destination is a must for you :) You can visit Boracay, Palawan or Bohol.
