Malaysia in December/January?
 

Has anyone been to Malaysia (either Kuala Lumpur or Penang) in December/January? If so, what is the weather like?

I'm not even sure this is where we'll go yet. Some other options include Bangkok, Mumbai, or maybe none of these.

This is definitely the time when we will be traveling, and we're probably going to be heading from Paris. So, any information on suggested spots in India/Southeast Asia would be appreciated.

I've been to much of SE Asia during that time of the year. Some areas have more rain at that time of the year, some do not (there are several different monsoon systems that affect this part of the world). One question to ask yourself is how much the weather matters to you. For instance, we spent time in Penang in November a couple years ago. There were thundershowers almost every afternoon, but it did not impair our enjoyment of the area at all.

I really don't think we're looking for an exclusively tropical-esque vacation, so some rain and thundershowers wouldn't bother us. However, if it rained and stormed the entire time, that might be a bit much.

My boyfriend is more picky than I am, but I appreciate your suggestion of figuring out if that's a major factor or not. I'll talk to him and then investigate the weather in the places we're considering.

Thanks Bart! I'll let you know what we decide to do. I really love the idea of the Asian/Indian fusion in Malaysia, and I would love to get my mouth around that food. As an aspiring cookbook writer, I think Malaysia could be a hotbed for amazing recipes and stories alike.

Food! If you want amazing food, visit Penang. Justly famous for it's hawker food, it also has the best Indian food I've ever eaten.
