Malaysia & Singapore Tips 2024/25
 

Just finishing up a 2 week vacation to M and S over Christmas and the New Year. A few tips:
1. Get cash from an ATM ASAP as Hawker Centers and other street vendors only take cash.
2. Tissue: Bring plenty of small packets of tissue. Always have one pack on your person at all times for going to the restroom/bathroom/toilet. Toilets typically don’t have toilet roll available.
3. Quick drying hand towel: Bring with you a quick-dry face-cloth sized towel to dry your hands after washing when out and about.
4. Packet of moist wipes: Pack multiple packets of Wet Ones or similar. ⬆️ you get the picture.
5. If planning on visiting a Mosque and you are a non Muslim female, pack a scarf (I brought a light weight linen pashmina) and a long sleeve t-shirt and a long linen pants. If you are male, borrow a sarong/buy a sarong or wear long pants.
6. TAXIS: Download an APP called GRAB. It’s like UBER. no UBER in M or S.
7. People are absolutely lovely and want to please. They don’t often understand what you are asking and just agree with you, thereby not giving relevant information at all.
Hotels we stayed at are: Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, The Rosa, Malacca, Marriot Bonvoy Apartment, Penang, (great having washer / drier but not my thing and construction going on. I recommend East West or The Blue House), St. Regis, KL and finally The Danna, Langkawi. If i was going again I would pick a more luxurious hotel in Singapore.
