Malaria tablets?

Hi all, my travelling partner has lost our malaria tablets. We are travelling into cambodia, laos and trekking in chang mai. Some people have said not to worry about it but i would rather err on the side of caution. I can obviously get them while i am in bangkok. any idea what sort of price i would be looking at? or do you think its just not needed at all.

Basicallly all of Cambodia and Laos are malarial risk areas. The only areas of Thailand that are malarial risk are the border areas with Burma, Laos, and Cambodia. Depending on where you are treking out of CM, you may or may not be in a malarial risk area.

What kind of anti-malarials did you have?

The reliable anti-malarial that is readily and cheaply available in Bangkok is doxycycline. You can buy Thai-made doxy for a few baht a tablet or you can buy Pfizer Vibramyacin for about two to three times as much.

You start taking doxy one to two days before entering teh malarial risk area and must take it at the same time each day for the whole time you are in the malarial risk area, and for one full month after leaving the malarial risk area.
