malaria tablets?

do I need to take malaria tablets for Hong Kong and Bangkok?

I've known two people with malaria and IMO, it is much easier to take some pills than go through months or possibly years dealing with malaria.

If the only places you are going are Hong Kong and Bangkok, the usually reliable sources say no. Read all about it at www.cdc.gov

Taking malaria tablets for urban areas like Bangkok and Hong Kong is a ridiculous idea. (Yes, I too know two men who DIED from malaria after spending 3 months in the bush in Africa.)

This reminds me of the American woman I overheard at the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong say to her husband, "Ivan, don't drink the milk, I don't they pasteurize in China."

thanks for the replies. I've once taken malaria tablets and I was unwell for some time afterwards- I'm convinced it was because of the tablets.(However I would have persevered with them this time if need be)
John, it may have seemed a ridiculous question to you but I have been given conflicting advice from doctors and welcome info from different sources.
Kathie
useful net link!
