Mahanaga restaurant

We will be traveling to Bangkok in about a week and would like to dine at the Mahanaga restaurant. Long-time Thai friends will be our guests. Could someone advise as to the pros and cons of outside versus inside dining at this restaurant in the early evening - around 7 pm? Thanks in advance for any comments you might have about this venue.

This is a lovely place to eat. Whether you want to eat outside will depend in part on the weather. In addition, consider that there is no smoking indoors in restaurants, but there may be smoking outdoors. For me, that's reason enough to eat indoors.

my issue would be only one thing: air conditioning is necessary for me to enjoy an expensive or any meal....noise is another issue??

Thank you both. I'll try for indoors. Kathie, may I use your name at SJ International Jewelers? In one post you mentioned that SJ's would pick up and return customers. Would they come as far as the Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa which is where we will be staying? I'm interested in the rubies and sapphires of course. Thanks again.

Please do use my name at SJ. Lily is my usual saleswoman, but any of them can help you. They might want to pick you up at the Takism dock, I don't know. But do call - they will make arrangements for your transport.

Thanks, Kathie for the SJ referral and Lily's name. I'll call for an appointment. We are also going to try Bob's tailor near the Marriott as soon as we arrive. Will 3 days be enough to have a suit made? We will be back in Bangkok just before we rturn to the US but will traveling about in between.

maybe a quick warning to jack would be helpful...send him an e mail to make sure he will be there early on your first day...i think he normally comes to work about 10....3 days is cutting it very close however...

having a day at the end of your trip is good for pick-up of finsihed goods also....go early to the tailor in case there is a last minute alteration...

like kathie, make sure you use our names' with jack...

i also have a jeweler that i like on soi 4, sukhumvit, but SJ might be easier for you...

Bob, what is the name of your jeweler just in case. Also is it enough just to say "Bob" referred us? Thanks.

rhkkmk Jan 15th, 2006 07:52 PM

it is thai stone jewelry in the lobby of the very grotty nana hotel on soi 4, sukhumvit road....we see porn (a woman) or mr lee...family run place...

don't be turned off by the hotel...its a left over from the vietnam war era and the former soldiers, now 70, are back there with their thai girl friends, now 22....

it is a small shop...we do mostly custom work with them but they have limited readi-made pieces...
