Magestic Grande/Centre Pointe
 

We will be in BKK for 4 nights in early Nov at the end of our trip. We have been to BKK 4 times before. Think we want to stay somewhere central to shops, restaurants etc. Would like to keep the price about USD80. Looking for quiet hotel, good breakfast and nice bathrooms! Does anyone have any comments on these places or any others?

We stayed at the Centre Point Silom and thought it was perfect in every way. Big, clean one bedroom apartment, nice buffet breakfast in the morning and very good location near the pier and sky train.

Thanks Tamara I read your report which is what made me even concider the Centre Pointe. The trouble with BKK is you are spoilt for choice or at least I always feel that way!!

Bob did I read somewhere that you will be staying at the MG in Nov? What attracted you to it?

yes jules i was planning on it but now will be at marriot for the final 14 days of my stay as they offered my a long stay rate i could not resist...

i will visit the MG however as i was there about the time it opened and simpsonc510 has eaten there and checked it out for me in janurary... she gave it good points, but said the rooms might be a bit small but everything else is nice about it and it is only 1 year old so everything will work and is still pretty new...

centre point is quite nice as well and would give you more room for the same price...it is next to the skytrain which is a plus imo...it is older however....there are many centre points...

you might also look at the ascott serviced apartments....they are very nice....

I stayed at the Majestic Grande last week for a couple nights. The location is very good, just five minutes or so from two different skytrain stations; and the neighborhood is filled with a wide assortment of shops, malls, restaurants, markets, etc. The lobby of the hotel is very attractive, the buffet breakfast was very good, and the staff was very helpful. I had an excellent view of the city from my room. However, my room (a single) was quite small, and I found myself rearranging the furniture a bit to get comfortable. Also, the wood finish on the furniture seemed a little warn, so I'm surprised to hear the hotel is only one year old. Maybe the result of too much cleaning? Also, since you specifically requested a nice bathroom, it might make a difference to you that there was no separate shower -- otherwise it was fine, although a little small also.

i have visited both the luang suan and silom centre points... both were nice...i have thought about staying at the wireless rd CP as well...it is very well located...an expat friend lived at the CP sukhumvit for two years and liked it.. they vary in price... look at the ascott places however, esp. the sathorn one...very nice

I spend my last 5 days in Bangkok in Centre Point Wireless Road. The location was good (very near the big Shopping Malls) and five minutes from Skytrain, very good facilities, adequate breakfast, but personell at front desk not so friendly. The US Ambassador lives next to the building. The room a bit small - would preferred to stay at a bigger one after two weeks in Siem Reap, Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son. Paid around 90 dollars per night. (Soon I'll post my trip report)

Last month for our last two nights in Bangkok we stayed at the Davis. Got a fab rate of $80ish through Asia Rooms and paid for the design room. When we arrived they were out of design rooms and put us in the new wing in a superior which was fantastic. Even if we had paid for the upgrade it would only have been an extra $10-15- Huge huge room with king four poster, flat screen, dvd fridge etc- even beautiful artwork and bronze statues in room., very new, luxurious, massive marble bathroom, incredible actually. Fresh flowers, and fruit were deliverd and a really nice breakfast was included.

We would certainly go back and recommend it highly.

That is interesting Sue because the Davis was somewhere I was initially interested in because I thought it looked lovely. I have read a few reports of people thinking the location is not "good". What did you think of that?
